Hi there,

In keen anticipation for ADSL supplied by Demon - There are a number of
access packages available. I'd like to get hold of the Ethernet version -
which from what I've heard isn't going to be likely for my requirements (1
real IP address - basic package) - it looks likely Demon (i.e. BT) will have
to sell me the USB version.

This I imagine incorporates a DSL modem and a router - to be attached to
only over USB.

My ageing RH7 Gateway machine - is a P60 with 2xPCI and 5xISA slots (I
think). All my I/O cards are ISA at present - thought there's a couple of
PCI slots which I think still work.

Can anyone recommend me an ISA or PCI USB I/O card - there's none native on
the motherboard to use. RH7.0 claims it supports a USB Stack - though much
of it is experimental.

I'd rather go through the USB integration pain into linux before I get a DSL
set up installed (if that _ever_ happens).

Anyone been through this loop before ?

J0e

Caution. Apart from the continuing lack of Linux drivers for it
(only Wodniws), there is much recent talk in uk.telecom.broadband
that the Alcatel Speedgizmo draws too much current from the USB port -
more than 500mA. This may or may not be in spec, but it appears many
motherboards and especially add-in cards can't cope and shut the port
down after a few minutes.

But it's a topic I'd very definitely be interested in too - in the
unlikely event that Demon can get off their arses to convince me back
by comparable pricing with superior facilities.

Nick
