Hi,

Does anybody know why, when I use (I'm using a Mac) the application
Newswatcher to read Demon newsgroups, I get a full listing of 37912, but
when I use MS Entourage (which is basically a beefed up version of Outlook
Express) I can only see a total of 29142? I use MS Entourage as my default
email client and it'd be nice to use that for reading news too.
I've cross posted this to the other two Demon Mac groups but they seem
pretty quiet. I donšt know if anybody is looking in there.
I asked Demon tech support about this a couple of months ago but they had no
idea. MS Entourage is not set to filter out any groups. It's strange.

Tim.

It's 37848 as I write this. I'd use a dedicated newsreader if I were you,
Entourage is presumably broken so there is no mileage in continuing to use
it.

Why? See above. It's best not to use M$ Mac products for Net use (although
to be fair a lot of people are attached to IE5. I'm not: however broken
Netscape is, it's a lot less clunky than IE IMHO).

Probably not, most Mac types congregate in uk.comp.sys.mac

See above re broken software. It's not a Demon problem so you're wasting
your breath in that respect.

Most likely download of the newsgroup list failed, as the number
hasn't been that low for quite a long time (and hence is probably
not a case of it not picking up new groups).

Yeah, last time I pointed someone at the Demon groups I got an
email telling me that they're dead, but uk.comp.sys.mac isn't.

I was going to suggest a filter ...

demon.ip.support.mac is still alive and you will get useful
replies to on-charter questions there.
demon.tech.mac has been subsumed into uk.comp.sys.mac.

I just pointed my Entourage at news.demon.co.uk for the first time (I
don't use it to read news, just email which I find it does very nicely
and predictably) and it found 37,898 groups. (This is Entourage after
applying the recent SR1 for Office:mac 2001.)

hope that helps,

James.
