Polite Notice: Warning this message is x-posted to a couple of
newsgroups.

Hi there, I have an A4000/030 (well it was an 030 when it started life)
which has recently decided to lose the date & refuse to save it. I
figured that this was a classic sign of the battery giving up & so went
looking for another one.

That was 3 weeks ago. I am having great difficulty finding exactly the
same battery (after all it's what nearly 10 years old).

Does anyone know:

A) of a supplier in the uk where I can get one?

or

B) if I can use an alternative battery & if so what?

Many thanks for your time.

Any rechargeable 3.6V battery will do. It's best to run leads and clip or
velcro the battery somewhere off the board.

Or you can use a Lithium battery with a diode to prevent charging,
or a supercap. Don't try a Lithium without the diode--it might burst.

The last time I looked Maplin, http://www.maplin.co.uk had a good selection.

BTW, I replaced my A3000's rechargeable Varta 3.6V NiCd 60mAh battery for the
better IMHO, Varta 3.6V 70mAh NiMh, Maplin code 'BN22Y' and it fitted perfectly.

Regards,

Steven

That was the very first thing I did. I think I got away with it :).

(Many thanks to them.) I did take the battery to all local stores & got
puzzled faces & scratches of heads & was usually told they couldn't get
hold of one like that/hadn't seen one in years/what dinosaur did it come
out of. I just wanted to know how far the specs could be stretched be
being hazardous to my amiga.

frequently asked questions. I've heard of these things but never figured
out where they are. I assume some web site or other.
