I've been getting occasional spam with 'invoice/statement' attachments
as zip files which of course don't get opened.

Today I have a few with .arj files. Why an arj?? I thought they went
out with DOS 6.2 and 512Mb floppies. Presumably malicious so I don't
want to try it out ....

9 today so far; dunno what attachment is as haven't opened the emails.
Curiously, one purports to be from a company I know about.

I had well over 100. They've stopped now.

I've had 3 similar invoice/statement attachments.

Norton put them in quarantine.

I'm curious why my mail routing *tim and administrator* lets them in?

Because with Demon's new (not so new now, I suppose) mail server, by
default all mail now comes to you with "administrator" in the envelope
"To", regardless of how it was originally addressed. The original
envelope To header is still available in the headers "within" the email,
but since Turnpike (which I see you're using) can only "look" at those
once the email has already been "accepted" the best you can do is use it
to put the email into a "junk" folder as opposed to your main inbox
folder.

You can run Thunderbird in parallel with Turnpike, and set TB's mail
collection times to be more frequent than TP's.

In TB, you can set it to route incoming unwanted emails to your waste
bin, and set anything entering the waste bin to be immediately deleted
from the mail server. With luck, most of your mail will be collected
first by TB, and when it's TP's turn, it won't be on the server to be
collected.

Or you can simply use TB for email.

I unpacked one of these attachments on my Linux box. It turned out to be
a .scr file
