makes me wonder if this posting is a troll :-)
You'll note from the headers that this mail is actually
addressed to its sender. This is the usual way these junk email
types work. They address the mail to themselves, and all the victims
are on the Bcc: list. This means that:
i) You don't get the addresses of all the other victims, so can't build
your own junk email list (as if you'd want to)
ii) You get confused wondering why you've received mail that apparently
wasn't addressed to you, unless you understand the effects of the
Bcc: list..
HTH - and that you'll complain to the postmaster at crown.icongrp.com as
they are the real people to moan at, and apologise to Demon.

The mail addressed to someone else means you are on a BCC list, so you
don't get to to see any of the other recipients' addresses. The mail you
posted is typical of the sort of junk mail sent out by annoying idiots
who scan Usenet to get lists of email addresses.

Any advice above is worth what I paid for it.

[checks headers]
It's spam :(

Congratulations! You are the one-millionth user to log into our system.
I get very tempted to send them back a copy, complete with anything I
happen to have lying around (eg large core dumps).
Perhaps a better approach (and actually more satisfying) is to forward
the mail to their service provider -> this has tended to get their
accounts yanked.

Upon deep reflection and vast file system searches I conclude you are right.
The second suspect piece of mail "deleted" by the user that received it,
but not before printing a copy, seems to be a case of them mass-printing
a load of email, and someone elses news article appearing in the middle.
So we only have one case, not two, and I agree it is a thick idiots spam,
who didn't even think to put an order-line phone number in.

Well - its such a poor spam, it *might* be accidental...
> and apologise to Demon.
eh???
I was right to post it here, it has been dealt with (peer support -
thanks all who responded) in 24 hours. I know demon support would give 3
autoresponders for me to hurdle over, and 3 weeks to realise I wasn't
getting anywhere.
I never did blame demon, or accuse them (apologies if I seemed to), I
explained what seemed to be happening (and I used the word "seems").
I hope I didn't appear to be castigating demons daemons, it was not
intentional.
Thanks for your help.

I've also received two similar messages from places in the USA, and it
looks like there's a new list of email addresses being distributed.
For your information, it's getting through to your address because
that's what the SMTP envelope address contains. This has nothing to do
with the actual message header. You've probably been the victim of a
Bcc: line in the original message...
Just send the message (in full) back to postm...@original.site, and
explain that you do not wish to receive any more like it. It usually
works.

You will have a head crash on your private pack.
This was the bit I reacted to. On re-reading, I guess you weren't
entirely blaming Demon - but it's hard to see who else you were
pointing the fickle finger at:

Still, as you say, if you'd mailed inte...@demon.net, you'd still
be awaiting an answer.
