Hi.

I received a router ST510 (v6) from Demon with a preconfigured unknown
password. (silly, why..)

Using Explorer (tools - internet connections - ....)

Connection setting.....:

user : hostname
PWD : ******************* (15 preconfigured words)
Domain : demon.co.uk

each time my PWD is inserted, it changed back to preconfigured PWD ???

I could not access the router configuration as mentioned in the letter
and leaflet. http://192.168.254.254 and the latter
http://192.168.1.254. Web pages not available ???? Try using dial up
to access the router configuration , No Access.....

How to change the preconfigured PWD ????.

This problems must arise long time ago, unfortunately I did not keep
tracks with the postings....

I appreciate some helpful suggestions....

Thanks in advance..

The letter that came with my free router claimed that it had been
preconfigured with my Demon login password. It hadn't.

It was left with the Speedtouch defaults, which are user: Administrator
and password: (blank)

See if the above works for you.

Hi,

The setting is OK now with the help from customer service :

correction : select options - LAN 'automatic' mode which blank host
IP address and subnet mask ( 3 lines blank) out.

Internet explorer use : 192.168.1..254, Speedtouch Homepage come up
and follow screen guide.

Set the new password (router?....hostname?..) to override existing
one.

telnet password.demon.co.uk : to update the new password

I will try looking for speedtouch software (thompson) via yahoo ...

Did you have the software to go with your speedtouch....

What I meant was that you should type Administrator into the username
field and leave the password blank.

However, it seems from your other post that you have solved the problem.

No: the Quick Start" leaflet (from Thomson) that was enclosed in the
package explains that a CD is only supplied when additional drivers are
required.

Thank you, I am OK.
The setup is very simple : Start - > run -> cmd -> type ipconfig (
check LAN connection, make sure it is set auto detect otherwise
speedtouch home page no access..

( LAN = automatic detect , blank out hostname IP addr and subnet )
(use known gateway router, etc...)

Web browser : htttp://192.168.1.254 , access password change, testing
DSL, Games, etc....

my error is not ticking LAN auto detect...

(tools -> int. connect. -> connection ->...etc..) check 'properties'
set up.....

Did not get wind up for the error.....
