I left demon as my ISP quite a while ago after lots and lots of years (not quite since it started but soon afterwards). I was allowed to keep my email address for not a lot a month - it was referred to as their 'dial up' contract, how quaint - so I did. I actually haven't been charged for some months. Today, after a due warning email to my zizek dot demon etc email a few weeks ago, it all has stopped. It did feel a little weird disabling my zizek demon accounts on my email client.

Adiós demon

Just think, there must be some out there who've never known a time when
Demon wasn't there! ;-)

Something I might miss is that occasionally I have been asked about my email address (old, now defunct, email address and have explained a little of its history. Usually I have been listened to politely with apparent interest, but then I was in the middle of buying something from them!
Will these strange demon newsgroups still continue?

Not everyone is so polite. Some five or so years ago a young salesman
came to my door, trying to sign me up to the ISP or telecom that he
worked for. When I said that I was with Demon he actually laughed at me.
Not the way to make a sale! (Not that I would have dreamed of signing up
to an ISP using those sales methods anyway.)

A friend of mine who was into aviation, was also very early into the
internet and even in the days of BD (-Before Demon) was an active CIX
user. He thought he was being clever including

Archaeopteryx

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Archaeopteryx

In his e-mail address (and even in his web page address)

He did however come to regret it as e-mail grew in popularity and we
started giving e-mail and web addresses to friends/colleagues over the
phone.......

The web site is long since dead but much to my amazement the way back
machine still has some copies of his early web site
