Further to my the thread last week about ADSL line drops, these are
still occurring, but to add to these woes is the difficulty in actually
connecting to Demon.

The following is an extract from the 'Connect' log:

Thu, 25 May 2006 18:03:55 Collecting mail from POP3 server
pop3.demon.co.uk
Thu, 25 May 2006 18:04:10 Failed to connect to news machine
news.demon.co.uk : [translating host name to IP address]
Connection failed - Host not found
-- Winsock ERROR : Valid name, no data record for type

Can anyone explain?

Another problem is that on occasions especially in the evenings, web
pages frequently time out before opening.

All these difficulties have only recently occurred, and as far as I am
aware, I have done nothing to this machine.

Pro, wireless router.

My DNS is (are?) set to 158.152.1.43 and ditto.58

DNS 1 158 152.1.58
DNS 2 158.152.1.43

I believe that originally the router set the DNS as a cache address

This sounds similar to a problem we've been battleing with for a
few weeks since moving and getting a new Demon connection. Things
seem to have improved quite a bit over the last week or so
though. What router are you using?

I would add that as well as this router, I can also connect using a PCI
ADSL modem. That has also had problems in activating the Demon
connection. Sometimes it takes upwards of 30 minutes before I can log
on.

Frustrating.

I must say over the past few weeks I've also had random DNS query problems
where
the Demon DNS servers claim a host can't resolve. It's sporadic, but I've
certainly
had some more again today over the last few hours.

Alan.

As I mentioned in an earlier part of this thread, I also use a PCI ADSL
modem. If I can get this to connect to Demon, which is a problem in
itself, then site connectivity appears considerably better than with the
wireless router.
