For the last few days I keep getting the following error message in
my newsreader (Forte Agent v3.3):

-------------- START QUOTE --------------

Error reported by server: 502 Access Denied (Hit Connection Limit)
(newsfe19.ams2) (Tornado v1.2.3.534)

-------------- END QUOTE --------------

I have set Agent to the following for news.demon.co.uk

1. Maximum allowed connections: 1

2. Connections reserved for priority tasks: 0

3. Limit body retrieval rate to 0 bodies per second

4a. The server creates messages out of order [ticked]

4b. Use the XHDR command instead of LISTGROUP

When I get the error message I terminate all Agent tasks, shutdown
and then re-start the program and 9 times out of 10 I get the same
problem again.

Is the problem with my newsreader settings (which I've been using for
years with no problems) or with the news-server? Any suggestions for
a solution?

Thanks very much in advance!

Are you also trying to restart an apparently stalled news download ?
My download goes OK until it reaches soc.culture.scottish when it
either times out or pauses for a lonf time before downloading somewhat
slowly for that and the following groups. If I stop and restart the
download I also get the 502 message after a couple of tries as if
Demon's end still thinks the previous attempts are still in progress.

The settings you need are
Maximum allowed 3
Connections for reserved 1
Automatically adjust for max connections TICKED

This set has worked for me... failing that just tell agent not to
display non fatal errors

Yes, I have tried to restart failed downloads.

I'll try and see if I can start a fresh download and report back.
