Going by one reply I've had (to No.1), it appears 4thenet.co.uk have a
newsfeed that's severly lacking. Note also that CPPnews is no longer supported.
BTW, I've set the follow-up to me personally because I cannot read this
group from 4thenet.co.uk
There are three problems :
1. I can't access all the messages sent to the groups like I used to with
Freeserve (I'm losing about three-quarters of all the messages, as well as not
getting any groups prefixed with "freeserve" or "demon" as I could with
Freeserve)
2. I'm often getting messages with subject headers mixed up with their
content, downloading via Windis32 and using in a DOS email and news program
called CPPnews, which uses SNEWS format unlike programs like Forte Agent
for example.
3. If the messages I can download, I get all apart from the last 3 or 4, when
it hangs, until I restart the newsgroup fetching and then it does get the last
few.
I've emailed the support at 4thenet but am awaiting their response so
appreciate any other input.
Thanks in advance,
Dom Robinson

I can not see how your problem relates to demon ip issues, I suggest
you locate a more appropriate ng to seek help. It is not logical to
expect demon customers to be familiar with the workings of a-n-other
ISPs news or mail systems, and if you suspect that the issue relates
to your particular software you should look to the support ng,
website, mailing list or email address of that software.

I always trim ng when posting!
Thanks for your words of wisdom, but the reason I've sent a message to that
ng is because I've had more help from that ng in the past over ng issues
than anywhere else, including with the Windis32 software when someone from
the ng updated it at the turn of the fake millennium so I could still download
news with it after Jan 1st 2000.
I've tried getting in touch with 4thenet's support, but after detailing my
problems with them they just said "thanks for your suggestions and we might
implement them later", as if!

If cppnews dies horribly from tomorrow morning onwards then you will
have to suspect that it also has a "gigasecond" bug :-(
I'm not sure if it holds its list of news articles in the same format as
Snews. If it does, then the rollover from 9 to 10 digit times may catch
you out :(

Still you never see the change from day to day
And no-one notices the customs slip away"
Can you explain what that means and when it's likely to happen?
TIA,

what it will mean is that news articles are threaded incorrectly, expire
at the wrong time and their subject lines are distorted
or perhaps other things - I've not looked at the cppnews source
it will happen for any articles arriving since about 2:46 this morning

Where software only allows nine digits, then there would be some sort of
failure, anywhere that processing depends on numerical order.
The problem may in part recur after 30-odd years; next at 2033-05-18 Wed
03:33:20, when those who still truncate will roll from 999... to 000...
again. In 2038, the number will flip negative, if treated as signed.

That's the sort of thing that happens when downloading news via Windis32
from 4thenet.co.uk although it gets affected during that stage before reading
in CPPnews.
However, just tried downloading news via Freeserve and it's still working
fine (had to use the pay-per-min number as FSU has finally ceased to be)
with all threads presented correctly.
