Independence Day is fast approaching and I need volunteers to help
decorate our new trailer for the parade! We need people to affix a
skirt to the trailer, to inflate LOTS of balloons--if you have one of
those small bicycle pump looking balloon pumps for non-helium
balloons, please bring it! (Young people with good lungs needed!) We
also need folks to help afix backgrounds and banners to our improvised
marquee. And we also need extra hands for lots of tasks, including
throwing candy and beads.
Bring at least 2 bags of candy per person or more if you can. We can
always use any leftover for Whitney Pioneer Days, but there seldom is
any left over.
As for chairs, since we do not have rails on the trailer yet, it would
be better if riders sat on the trailer instead of in chairs--we don't
want anyone sliding out of their chair into the crowd. If you are
bringing your kids to ride, you'll need to ride with them on the
float.Every kid will need a resposible adult to ride with them.
We also need people to walk with the float and throw candy and beads
at the crowd. It is possible we can rotate riders and walkers if you
don't think you can make it the entire route, depending on how many
need to ride the entire route. Basically we need all the people we can
get to turn out and make a strong showing for our Demcrats in Hill
County. So whatever you can contribute, I appreciate it!
We will be meeting at Dwight Carmichael's house at 500 Craig Street in
Hillsboro July 4th at 8 AM. Please don't assume this is too early!
The parade starts at 10 and we will have a LOT to do to get the float
ready and we need you there early!
