Hello Austin Democracy Now! Supporters,

Some sad news to report.

Just found out that the subscription to Dish Network has been cancelled.

Dish Network carries Free Speech TV which is the channel that re-broadcasts Democracy Now!

This had been offered as a free service up until now.

I've left a voicemail for Nancy Simons, who is the channelAustin producer associated with channelAustin's broadcast of Democracy Now! and hope this email reaches her as well.

But at this point, with no signal coming into the station, we won't be able to re-air Democracy Now! until someone pays for Dish Network service, which actually, I believe, is something that needs to be handled via Free Speech TV.

I believe that cost is between $300 and $400 a year. Don't quote me on that, I don't have the figures in front of me.

And just so you are aware, channelAustin is not in a position to cover that cost.

That cost will have to come from the community that supports it being re-aired here in Austin.

I've left Nancy Simons a voicemail with a contact person at Free Speech TV to inquire about further details.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news and please let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks for the bulletin.  Nancy is working on it. I hope that the DN! bank account balance will cover the charge.  At any rate we will get the money to whomever has to get it as soon as we can.

Thanks to some generous contributors who would rather remain anonymous, we still have $350 in the Democracy Now account. I've left a message with Free Speech TV to find out how much we need to send them and how to renew the subscription. I'll keep the list posted on how this is going.

Nancy — let us know if there's a shortage. We can give more.

Thanks, Greg. You have been so generous . I'm hoping we have enough for awhile. We have a couple of others who have offered, and you and Brenda have already given more than anyone.

I'm still working on it, and getting closer to finding out how to make this happen, I think!

Thanks,
Nancy

The DISH network feed to channelAustin has been reinstated.
Unfortunately, channelAustin ran into some technical problems in the
attempt to restore the configuration. I talked with the Technical
Director at channelAustin today and he told me the connection would be
operational by Monday. I had an email from Free Speech TV yesterday
and they will let me know when and what the payment will be.

I'm sorry we couldn't get it back on TV any sooner. All of the shows
for this week are available for computer viewing at http://www.democracynow.org/shows/2010/6
. The quality is surprisingly good.

Many thanks to those who offered financial help. I'll let you know if
we don't have enough.

Nancy
