This from Alexander F. Rietveld (afrie...@gmail.com) who has asked for it to be circulated. If you know anyone who could contribute to his little book of positive memories for Luke’s son, please pass this message on. A paragraph or a page or two, as fits.

I am writing to you in relation to the untimely death of our friend, colleague Luke Atkinson.

While we are all mourning his tragic death right now, his son Seba (Sebastian), who just turned 18, is left behind and will miss him even more than probably most of us can comprehend.

Although they did not see each other a lot, given Luke’s overseas work and given that Seba lives in Poland with his mother, they were very close. As he and Luke’s sister in New Zealand are the only next of kin, direct support to him will be limited.

To support him through this difficult time I think that some nice memories of his father might give Seba some comfort, by knowing that his father was cherished by many and had a rich and fulfilling life, and in some ways getting to know his father a bit better through these stories.

With this in mind I am asking you as his friends and colleagues who spent time with him to write about a special moment or an adventure with Luke. Big or small, if you have a story or adventure to share please do. If you have an accompanying picture, even better. The goal is to have a booklet together by November, hence would appreciate your entries preferable by Friday  30 October.

Referring to the quote "I will not tell you how he died...I will tell you how he lived"...it will be a nice commemoration too, for a man who perfected the art of storytelling himself.

Thank you in advance for your effort and support and I hope you can forward this email to those you know who knew Luke.!

Cheers

Alex (afrie...@gmail.com)
