Mr. Tucker,
We appreciate all the work that you, and the the other volunteer instructors provide through the Excell Program. We consider it an extraordinary asset, in the lives of both of our daughters. Thank you for getting back to me with Grace's homework assignment for last week, and the notice of the impending test on Saturday.
I reviewed last week's homework with Grace and the homework presented yesterday, which she has already completed. The work that is being done in the class is work that she completed last year at El Rincon Elementary, in Culver City. By her own admission, the current work, as presented in the Excell Program, is too easy and not very challenging. As a fifth grader, she is currently studying pre-algebra.
I know that all of the children were tested for aptitude, and placed accordingly. As parents we weren't notified of the results, and presumed that the findings placed Grace in this particular class, as appropriate for her testing scores. However, this may not be the most challenging class for her.
What solution would you consider for this problem? Should she be placed at a sixth grade level, to challenge her more? Should she be given more advanced homework? What should we expect for the remainder of this semester and the next, regarding student matriculation?
