Dear Friends,
It is my pleasure to introduce Mrs. Radha Ramaswamy of Centre for Community Dialogue and Change.  Here is a brief introduction about Mrs. Radha and CCDC.

The Centre for Community Dialogue and Change was founded by Radha Ramaswamy who has been, in a working life of 30 years, an English teacher, theatre researcher, dramaturg, an educational consultant to NGOs, and finally, a Theatre of the Oppressed practitioner and trainer. Radha has over 25 years of experience teaching English in Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore and Cambridge. Her  lifelong interest in theatre, especially as it relates to its audience, led to her doctoral work  on "Aspects of Performance in Contemporary Indian Drama in English”  from the University of Bangalore in 2004.

Since founding the CCDC, Radha has worked with diverse communities of people- students, teachers, teacher trainers, senior citizens, doctors and medical teachers. She has conducted  Forum performances for the Dignity Foundation in Bangalore, which have led to a new awareness among senior citizen groups in the city- Radha now has an invitation to work with the Rotary Senior Citizens' Club, Cantonment, Bangalore. Radha  conducted a workshop for the faculty at the Mount Carmel Institute of Management, and offered a credit course in Theatre of the Oppressed for undergraduate students of the College. Her August 2011 workshop at Mount Carmel College had 27 participants from the University of Washington in Seattle visiting Bangalore on a study programme. The Forum performance following this workshop explored issues such as education, and discrimination based on gender and caste.

Radha plans to conduct a series of Theatre of the Oppressed workshops specially for teachers, at various levels. A major future thrust will be to develop a unique school/college curriculum that will use TO techniques in mainstream education.

She called me on the dementia helpline a couple of days ago and shared with me about her passion for theater and creating awareness and educating masses in unique and innovative ways.  She has put together a play called “There’s Nothing Wrong With My Mother!”  There has been a lot of effort put into creating awareness about what the caregivers go through caring for their loved one with dementia.

She has extended the invitation to all the caregivers and others involved and interested in Dementia are invited.

Please do come and be a spectator to this marvellous performance.

Regards,

Dr. Priyamvada
