Hi All,

I hope your Thanksgiving break went well! Gear up for the last few weeks of the semester with Emory University postdoc Dr. David Nicholson’s expansive overview of neural network-based segmentation and its application to finding syllables in birdsong. See you all tomorrow morning, Nov. 26, 10am-11am in Boyd 208!

Best,
The Deep Learning @ UGA Student Committee

Hey all,

Thanks again for letting me come talk with the group today, and thank you for your helpful feedback.

Here's links to some of the machine learning / neural network studies that I talked about:

Temporal Convolutional Networks

"When Recurrent Models Don't Need to be Recurrent"

Feature-based supervised learning algorithms applied to classifying songbird syllables:

TweetyNet (hybrid CNN-biLSTM network for segmenting and annotating song)
songdeck (library I'm developing to benchmark different neural networks ... still very beta!)

And here's a couple of the birdsong papers I mentioned:

I'll be back Friday to participate in this Georgia Informatics event which by the way I think is totally free for the UGA community:
Maybe see some of you there?

Hope you all have a good rest of the semester.

(Also PSA: don't forget early voting for runoffs started this week! https://www.onlineathens.com/news/20181124/early-voting-begins-monday-in-georgia-runoff-elections We still don't have a new secretary of state; please make your voice heard if you are registered to vote in Athens)
