Hi all,
Thanks for the fantastic attendance at our inaugural meeting! Chris Barrick gave a great in-depth talk about the vanishing gradient problem in deep learning, and how different activations functions can be used. His slides will be posted on the website (
https://eds-uga.github.io/delug/ ) shortly.
In the meantime, we have a Slack chat now!
https://delug.slack.com/ I've sent out invites to the email addresses on this mailing list. Let me know if you didn't receive one. This will be the focal point for free-form discussions around deep learning.
Our next meeting (and last of Fall 2017) will be Monday, November 27 at 11am - 12pm. Location and speaker are TBD--please feel free to suggest a speaker (or volunteer yourself!).
Lastly, if you have speaker suggestions for Spring 2018, please send them! We are hoping to have most of the spring schedule finalized before the start of the semester, or at least know who will be speaking.
Regards,
Shannon
