Hello DELUG Community:
We are extremely excited for our second year as a student organization and have a lot in store for you!
Firstly, our schedule for the semester is as follows:
Sept 10,
Sept 24,
Oct 8,
Oct. 22,
Nov. 5,
Nov. 26,
Dec. 3
All meetings will be held 10:00am - 11:00am in Boyd GSRC Room 208. Mark your calendars!
Additionally, we will be having an informal off-campus Social Event at Walker’s Pub on Friday, September 7th. More details will be sent out as we get closer to the date.
If you would like to join our Slack channel (Deep Learning @ UGA, https://delug.slack.com) please e-mail a member of the Student Committee (e-mail addresses provided below). This is a great place to ask questions, mention projects, share news and publications, etc. Also, if you or a colleague has not yet signed up to receive e-mails from us, join our Google group (Deep Learning UGA) or e-mail one of us to add you to it.
**CALL FOR SPEAKERS: If you or someone you know has been doing research or general reading up on deep learning-related topics, or if you have suggestions for people we can contact to present, please let us know. Presentation topics in the past have ranged from the presenter’s own research results to discussing newly developed model architectures or reviewing various algorithms and hyperparameter implementations. Speakers get their name, picture, bio, and presentation slides posted to our website: https://delug.github.io.
Final note to newcomers and members alike: we’ve received a lot of questions regarding the level of experience required for attending our meetings. The presentations we host cover a wide range of difficulty levels, but it is our aim to make the content accessible to people of all levels. We are asking our speakers to provide sufficient background information to the topics on which they present as well as live demos, and questions at ANY AND ALL levels of expertise are welcome and encouraged! Even if a particular subject is above your comfort level or outside your specific domain, absorbing as much of the vocabulary and material as possible is still helpful in building a global understanding for the field and applying deep learning to your specific research/computing needs.
Please let us know if you have any questions. We look forward to seeing you all September 7 at Walker’s Pub, September 10 for our first meeting, and throughout the semester.
Best wishes,
The DELUG Student Committee
