Hey Folks:
Don’t want to alarm anyone
J In addition to Burke and Caldwell Counties, the following counties have been added to the Freezing Rain advisory:
Alexander
Catawba
Lincoln
Cleveland
Iredell
Rowan
Other counties may be added to the advisory as the day progresses. Just as before, they are not expecting accumulations to be over a tenth of an inch. Just make sure everyone is careful driving in this stuff
tomorrow morning.

Subject: RE: Weather on the way - UPDATE
Hey Folks:
The latest advisory lists Caldwell and Burke Counties to receive some freezing rain. It is calling for up to a tenth of an inch accumulation, which is typically not enough to bring down power lines. However,
it can make traveling conditions dangerous.
So, while we may not be under the gun for a large winter storm response, we still have house fires to which we are responding, and I’m sure our DATs would appreciate showing up for a vehicle with a full tank.
We also want to make sure we’re taking blankets out on our fire calls as well as coffee for our first responders – if your chapter has the capacity to do this in a timely manner.
This will be my last message regarding the incoming weather unless advisories for our region change for the worse.

Subject: Weather on the way
Importance: High
Hey Folks:
The National Weather Service has issued a Freezing Rain Warning that encompasses all 4 counties of Territory 1 – Catawba, Alexander, Burke and Caldwell. This warning time frame is 9pm this evening until 9am tomorrow morning. The
main issue we experience with freezing rain is downed power lines. During times when it is extremely cold and there is significant power outages, we may likely have to open shelters.
As the day progresses, there may be additional warnings for other parts of our region. There are also warnings issued for parts of the Western Carolinas and Heart of Carolinas regions. I need for all our chapters to take the following
preparedness steps today:
-make sure disaster response vehicles are fueled
-make sure shelter trailers and supplies are ready to roll, and that you have a way to transport them
-check availability of sheltering, feeding, health and mental health volunteers
-check with volunteers/staff who have NSS accounts and ensure their accounts are active
-check in with your respective county emergency managers
As always, we’ll keep our fingers crossed in hopes that we will not have to mount a response this evening or tomorrow. However, we do need to be ready to roll if called upon. Thank you for your efforts in preparing for a possible winter
storm response.
