·           National Leadership Appointments

The National Council of Delta Zeta announces exciting news regarding leadership appointments for the Sorority.

National Council Appoints New National Director, Heather Jerden Anderson IY '90

We are pleased to announce that Heather Jerden Anderson IY '90 (University of Texas/Arlington) has been appointed as a National Director to fill the vacant National Director position on National Council for the remainder of the 2006-08 biennium. Heather has served as Area Alumnae Director (AAD) for the Southwest Area (New Mexico and Texas) since 2001.  A new Area Alumnae Director search is currently underway.  She also serves on the National Strategic Planning Committee and is a national advisor for the Iota Psi Chapter, University of Texas/Arlington.  We welcome Heather to service on the National Council.

National Council Appoints New National Extension Chairman, Sara Groom Boucek GN '95

We are also pleased to inform you that Sara Groom Boucek GN '95 (Eastern Illinois University) has been appointed as National Extension Chairman for the remainder of the 2006-08 biennium.  In this role, Sara will oversee the extension program for the establishment or re-establishment of Delta Zeta chapters.

Sara most recently served the Sorority as the Regional Collegiate Coordinator for Region XVI (Illinois).  Prior to that, she was College Chapter Director for the Theta Theta Chapter at DePaul University, and traveled for Delta Zeta as an Educational Leadership Consultant (formerly known as Chapter Consultant).  She has also participated on several extension teams and presentations which are an asset to this position.

National Council wishes to thank Kathi Bray Heatherly '83, National Vice President of College Chapter Operations, for her eight years of service in the role of National Extension Chairman, during which time the Sorority experienced significant growth.  Her dedication and passion for Delta Zeta is her driving force and she will continue to focus her primary work in the area of College Chapter Operations.

Delta Zeta is issuing a press release about these appointments today.   Click here to view the press release.

Please join us in congratulating these dedicated Delta Zeta alumnae on their new and/or continuing roles.  If you would like to send cards or notes of thanks, please use the contact information below:

·          ANNOUNCEMENT TO THE OFFICIAL FAMILY

It is with regret that the National Council announces the resignation of Deborah Raziano, National President.  Click here to read Raz's letter of resignation.  The Council will immediately address the leadership vacancy.

All of us thank Raz for her many years of service to Delta Zeta and for her meaningful friendship with so many of our sisters.  We ask you to join us in expressing our love and appreciation to Raz.  If you would like to send her a card or note of thanks, her contact information is:

                                                Deborah A. Raziano
                                                117 Ashton Road
                                                Luling, LA  70070

The National Council of Delta Zeta is pleased to share information on the following leadership decisions:

Michelle Albrecht Smith, Alpha Chi Chapter at the University of California/Los Angeles, has been elected to fill the unexpired term of National President through June 2008.  Michelle is a demonstrated leader whose skills have positively impacted Delta Zeta's programs and membership.

Michelle's experience on National Council as National Vice President of Membership Development, National Vice President of College Chapter Operations, and National Director, along with her professional and local volunteer experiences is the basis for her election to this position.  Michelle is the President and General Manager of Castlehead Inc., an escrow firm in southern California and is also involved in a number of professional and non-profit organizations in that area.

The National Council is confident that Michelle's experience, energy, and passion for Delta Zeta will provide a smooth transition in leadership as we work together to further the goals of our sorority.

Phyllis Sundberg Davis, Alpha Gamma Chapter at the University of Alabama, was subsequently elected to fill the unexpired term of National Vice President of Membership Development.

Phyllis' resume includes extensive experience and focus on membership growth, national training, and college chapter operations.  She has served our sorority in many leadership roles including National Secretary, National Director, Regional Collegiate Coordinator, and a member of Delta Zeta's National Panhellenic delegation.  Phyllis serves her local community as a Special Education teacher in the Pearl School District.  With this experience, we are excited that Phyllis has accepted this new role.

In addition, the National Council is pleased to announce the election of Marlo L. Dorsey, Xi Phi Chapter at the University of Missouri/Kansas City, to fill the unexpired term of National Secretary.  In this capacity, she will oversee the ongoing educational and training activities of the sorority and as such, will work closely with the National Training Committee.

Marlo most recently served the sorority as the Regional Collegiate Coordinator for Region II (Eastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey).  Prior to that, she was College Chapter Director for the Epsilon Gamma Chapter at the University of Central Missouri (formerly Central Missouri State University).  Marlo has served on several national committees within the sorority including the Public Relations Task Force and was Chairman of the Membership Internet Safety Committee.  In addition to her service to Delta Zeta, Marlo serves as the Treasurer of the New York City Alumnae Panhellenic.

Professionally, Marlo is a Fixed Income Specialist focusing on Municipal Bonds and Emerging Markets for Bloomberg, LP in New York City.  Her job involves marketing and conducting training seminars for Bloomberg's internal staff, clients, and potential customers across the United States.  We are very excited that Marlo will be joining our leadership team as we start a new school year and look forward to her valuable contributions in the coming months.

In accordance with the Constitution and Code of Regulations of Delta Zeta Sorority, these elections took place at a meeting of National Council held August 16-19, 2007 at National Headquarters in Oxford, Ohio.

It is an exceptional time for Delta Zeta and your National Council is excited about the many initiatives that we will be announcing in the near future.  Please be on the lookout for the publication of Sidelights, our members-only newsletter, which will be mailed the last week of September.

You are an important part of our sisterhood and we are each honored to serve you.
