LocalClient unable to install Follow me printer. The client gets prompted "Do you trust this printer?", but once you select "Install Driver", I get a dialogue box "Windows cannot connect to the printer, operation failed with error 0x0000007c".
I had same issue, one computer was unable to connect printer (locally shared from second computer), on the step when you need to install driver it said error "0x0000007c".
What I did:
deleted printer on 1st computer;
deleted driver;
and then downloaded driver from internet for that printer and installed it manually(only driver .inf file);
after that when I tried to find printer(with run command \HOSTNAME) and tried to connect it all was successful, it does not ask for install printer driver anymore.
Hope it helps.
Having a similar issue with a HP LaserJet 1022 on a Windows 10 Home computer. The printer sharing was working fine and just stopped working. KB50006670 update is not installed. At first, the printer could not be seen and required at Network Reset. The printer can now be seen but 0x0000007c error still appears. There is not driver on the host computer to delete as it is built-in. going to HP support to download drivers directs you to use what is already on the Windows 10 computer.
Hello, you have to delete driver not from host computer, you have to delete it from your computer(If it exists)... problem of error 0x0000007c is that you can't pass the step, where your computer tries to download and install the printer driver from host computer.. So, solution is that you manually install driver before adding shared printer and when you do that and then you add the printer you pass that problematic step and printer is connecting without issues.
1- one solution is to uninstall a specific update but there would be another update installed after some time which is not a proper solution or you have to turn off the automatic updates which is also not a proper solution.
I was having the same problem and found the fix on another site. on Windows 10, look for update KB5006670 and remove it. After rebooting, shared printers on the network can be added again.

Thank you for the suggestive solution.
with this method, I solved the "HP laserjet 1020 0X00000007c" error.
any other method is useless.I think that the HP 1020 is too old to install the driver by downloaded program. And all the dowdload one are producing error when you try to use client pc to connect with share printer of host pc.
the downloaded program only work for host pc which has a usb connect to printer, and client pc has no usb connected to hp 1020.
This worked like a charm for accessing a shared Brother laser printer on our private network! NONE of the other steps above would actually get the driver installed including running the whole printer installation package.
A quick note, if your printer isn't listed, click the have disk option and navigate to the driver files (.inf) for your printer wherever you have them saved. It will install them and then you can print!
Open the Registry Editor (regedit.exe).
Go to the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Print\Printers\ and expand the branch with the printer name
In the registry key of the printer which is facing with the problem, delete BIDI key in CopyFiles section
Hi,
I have the same problem as KaizarLehri-2109, but your ansver is for the printserver and there is no problem at my printserver. The printer is OK at my printserver and as well as my laptop connected via WiFi. My PC and printserver are connected via ethernet cable. I have recently rebuild my pc with latest win10 and after that I get the problem. Before rebuild I had no problem with the network shared printer. Maybe some wrong with the new Win10?
