As much as I enjoy the Vive when it works, it's getting really frustrating to use it regularly. My most common issue is the bluetooth link not working, which either causes the Base Stations to never go to sleep, or not wake up.
Clicking Restart obviously doesn't do anything. I tried power cycling everything. Link box first then stations, and the other way around. Tried uninstalling the drivers and re-installing them, unchecking the "use bluetooth" in the settings and re-checking it.
Is there a magic solution I'm unaware of? A very specific sequence of actions to make this work, ideally without having to do it everytime I use the Vive? The Base stations are quite loud so putting them to sleep is pretty important (not to mention power consumtion), and I would like to avoid un/plugging them from the wall everytime I want to jump into VR.
I was having this problem too, I gave up on the bluetooth thing and turned off that feature, I just have my lighthouses plugged into a switched power bar (one for each lighthouse) and at one of them, I also have the Vive's power plugged in also. So when I'm not using the Vive, I just turn off the two power bars and unplug the Vive's USB. Everything's been working well since, that Bluetooth option seems to be more of a pain than what it's worth. I did have it working decently at one time, but after a SteamVR update, it never did work properly afterwards, there has been many SteamVR updates since but I just can't be bothered to have the headaches to get it to work properly.
The Vive system is composed of about 9 different USB drivers, including Bluetooth, controllers, camera, receivers and audio, among others. Due to different reasons, like software updates, change of connections, system updates or malfunction of a device, the USB drivers might get into conflict and reinstalling them is a good way to get everything back to its working state.
Note: This list includes the drivers of the devices directly connected to the computer by USB, as it is the HMD and Link box. Controllers and Base Stations are connected to the headset through Bluetooth and then to the computer, so these devices are not going to be visible on this list.
Try the steps above and see if that works for you.
After doing that everything seemed to have went back to normal, but after a few days the issues came back - sometimes not waking up from sleep (forcing me to unplug and then replug the base stations), and sometimes not going to sleep.
So I never got the bluetooth base station power management to work, until today. I moved the link box USB plug from my USB 3.1 to one of my USB 3.0. And now it properly identifies my base stations when I scan for them.
I had this problem as well. I followed most of the guides on here and it would only temporarially fix it. After a while someone mentioned here or another forum that it might be windows bluetooth or the onboard bluetooth interfering. It actually was. In windows 10 I went to settings then airplane mode (don't turn airplane mode on) and turned off bluetooth in there. That turned off the windows blue tooth and it fixed my problem.
Not the problem with this is, is it turns off blue tooth everything but the vive bluetooth. I am personally alright with this, but others might not be depending on how you use stuff. I use corded everything so I don't need bluetooth for anything else.
So the driver software you can install from TP link technically works ( -link.com/ca/support/download/ub400/#Driver), but let be honest it is very slow. Audio output to my bluetooth headphones is constatanly out of sync by 1-2 seconds at worst. The real problem with the TP-Link's driver software is that it can only pair with one device at a time, and the pairing process is forced to have to connect only using the bluetooth icon in the taskbar.
@jrmistry That's interesting the 2004 bloke your BT as well. It took out the built in setup, so I tried the external dongle to see what would happen. It didn't work either. The dongle was listed in the printers and devices section with e picture of a headset (as is seen in this thread), however, I was unable to find it listed in the actual device manager., therefore I was unable to update it or choose a different driver.
I had this problem, but found a solution that I hadn't seen explained in full anywhere else (although the idea of updating the driver that some people have mentioned was the clue that let me find the solution).
@JaydenH, I had similar issues and i had to go to Add or remove program and remove CSR Bluetooth Harmony Stack, then scan for hardware changes in device manager and suddenly everything started appearing again. Also check, ctrl + r, type services.msc and see if BluetoothSupportService is running otherwise restart the service and reboot. Hope this helps.
@JaydenH If it is not recognized, please download and install the Bluetooth driver manually from the official website. Try to insert UB400/ UB4A into a different USB port on your computer. For Windows XP/7, try to restart the computer after installing the driver.
@JaydenH A little bit too late, but I run into the same problem: my computer has a faulty integrated BT adapter, and Windows would not recognize the UB400 I got as a replacement. The UB400 will work only after you disable the default adapter. Try disabling the default adapter and rebooting your machine.

I gather that you updated to Windows 10 about a year ago. Last week you started to have an issue with the Bluetooth. When I checked the software and driver page for your notebook, I noticed that Windows 10 is not listed. This tells us that HP has not tested Windows 10 on this model and the outcome is unknown. Step 1. Go to device manager and click on Bluetooth to expand the list
Step 2. Right click on "Bluetooth Peripheral Device" that you want
Step 3. Select "Update Driver Software..."
Step 4. Choose "Browse my computer for driver software"
Step 5. Choose "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"
Step 6. Select "Ports (COM & LPT)"
Step 7. Select "Microsoft" at "Manufacturer" list
Step 8. Finally select "Standard Serial over Bluetooth link"
If you are still unable to pair with a Bluetooth device try the following:
Step 1.Type" change device" into Cortana
Step 2. Click on where it says Change device installation settings.
Step 3. Select the No, let me choose what to do option.
Step 4. Check the automatically get the device app option
Step 5. Click Save changes to save the settings you just chose
My wifi driver (Intel(R) Wi-Fi 6 AX201 160 MHz) has completely ceased to function. I've tried running the Driver Assistant tool multiple times, and installing the newest version of the driver has not helped at all.
I'm not very technologically inclined and I'm having a really hard time understanding what to fix here.
What mean for you "manully shutdown", "manually restart" - I usually go at Windows icon then Power -> Restart/Shutdown.
Maybe you can check my components at my profile, I install "Intel Driver & Support Assistant". I am Computer engineer and work like Web developer, so I know some stuff. I also bring PC to local PC experts but did not helped me. Motherboard seller said that he did not have fault Motherboard like this, usually is something bigger. He also think this is driver issue/conflict and he can send me new motherboard.
I have a similar problem with the Intel Wifi 6 AX201 160Mhz, it still doesn't work despite following the same instructions, I recently did a fresh install of Windows 11 and to date it's the only device that doesn't work. The strangest thing about the issue is that Bluetooth doesn't work either and it doesn't appear in the list of devices, can you help me?
For the people with issues make sure you really follow each step as Scott mentioned and, for me, after the new drivers are installed I had to shut down the pc on the power button otherwise would still fail for some reason.
