Sometimes we forget about what's close by and seemingly commonplace and everyday, as we seek something amazing and exciting.
If you ran in yesterday's Half Marathon in Delhi - congratulations! You must have had an awesome time with the crowd, energy and the weather. We would like to give you some information on having an even better time at your next run, now that you are hooked on this craziness !
We would love to have you get even better at a half marathon and end with a smile on your face, injury free:
Yesterday was a real enjoyable and satisfying run in many respects - being a slow 2:55 pacer got me to run with and meet up with hundreds of 1st timers who hopped on and off the bus at various locations. I would be delighted to be able to get these folks to run better, enjoy their runs more, and finish with a smile on their face the next time around. At 2 post race parties yesterday, I met many fast runners, even those who had a PB, who could run even faster and that is what got me to put this down - so here goes a few pointers to achieving happiness in your next half or full marathon:
1- TRAINING SCHEDULE IS PRIMARY: this is key to get you to smile - DO NOT EVER COMPROMISE ON THIS ONE. world class training schedules of legendary Hal Higdon are at http://runningandliving.com/HalfandFullMarathon/#Half and pick your level - 1st timer, intermediate or advanced. Focus on the discipline that is required as you know there are no short cuts in long distance running.
2- RUNNING FORM - this is critical to ensuring that your training schedule - which includes strength training, nutrition, hydration, flexibility, cross training and rest, can be put into practice with a fluid and efficient motion- http://runningandliving.com/KeenRunner/#
3- RUNNING COMMUNITY - to get you regular, to have fun, to find running buddies at YOUR pace and with YOUR goals and where you will always have information and advice from fellow runners on different issues and also be an advice giver yourself - that's what our 75 groups across the country, and 12 across the NCR provide - http://runningandliving.com/running_in_india.html#join
4- BECOME YOUR OWN BEST COACH - Keep a training log http://runningandliving.com/log.html to log simple aspects of your run - both physical and psychological. Review the best and the worst runs to find out the why's, and see how you can give yourself advice on what to wear, or rest and carbo load before a long run etc etc. You learn what made a bad run bad and try and replicate what made a good run great.
5- RUN A FEW RACES BUT CHALLENGE YOURSELF ONLY IN ONE OR TWO A YEAR - Chill out in a few races and do different distances. Come and run in some of our 30 runs across 10 States across the 12 months of 2014. Varied conditions. http://runningandliving.com/running_in_india.html#upcoming
Come and run with us on Jan 5th in Panchkula as we close registrations on Dec 22nd.
MOST IMPORTANTLY - HAVE A BLAST
New year resolutions are made but difficult to get started. We would love to work with you on starting 2014 off on the right note with the scenic and misty The 4th Panchkula Running And Living Cross Country Marathon on Jan 5th which also has a Half and a 10 K and 5 K run. It's definitely a run to remember.
