Dear Cyclistas,

The last friday of the month is coming up!
Which means it's time for the next CM ride.

DATE: Friday, November 27, 2009
TIME: 6:00pm - 8:00pm
MEET AT: Vijay Chowk, Near Rashtrapati Bhavan

Please join us for the Nov 2009 edition of the Delhi Critical Mass cycling
event. We will assemble at Vijay Chowk between 6:00 and 6:30 and ride

hi riders

critical mass- why not on saturday
even banglore has critical mas on saturday................then why not delhi

critical mass is not an organized ride and only 1 person does not initiate the ride.............

so i urge the masses to start critical mass on last saturday of every month...............

and on every ride lets change the route. riding same route every time is insane..........

keep meeting point same. .....but from vijay chowk lets go towards brt corridor.this time
looking for other people views.this is what i feel should happen.

happy cycling

dear friend,

here is my few words on the earlier sent mail, would like to give my opinion on each of the points mentioned, though the sequence may change a bit

firstly said issue of

critical mass is not an organized ride and only 1 person does not initiate the ride.............

where and when did it become a initiative of one man, rather the way you are pushing people for a saturday ride is as if you want to be the one man initiating the critical mass.
it had always been a group effort and will remain so. people are welcome to join and leave as they please but the show will go on. there are people who came in first that doesn't mean that they will be a part of it till last or they are running the show. it is not a one man show please be clear on that. on contrary i would like to thank those who introduced us to the concept without any selfish cause.

critical mass- why not on saturday
even banglore has critical mas on saturday................then why not delhi

we are not here to follow banglore or new york. the point is what makes logical sence. please refer to links which are sent every time along with the invite. they will give us all a logical explaination to why only a friday evening. let's start doing our homeworks right rather than jumping into conclusions (check wiki to start with).

and on every ride lets change the route. riding same route every time is insane..........

since it is not a one man show we should prefer sticking to one route for the ease of the mass and not that we are following someone. here you yourself are contradicting your first point. let us not look at it from leisure point of view for that we may have many other opportunities this is more of an event to put across a point. let us have the confidence that one day our numbers will be much more and that point of time we will be able to run the show only if we stick to one route. also in that case the said "1 Man" running the show becomes dispensable. it will no more be required to have someone reinventing the routes everytime. all the cities bikers will know where to be on the last friday, at what time and which route to take. in other words it's very sane to stick to the same route.

keep meeting point same. .....but from vijay chowk lets go towards brt corridor.this time
looking for other people views.this is what i feel should happen.

this one sounds good atleast the first part of it, see you all at vijay chowk. not too convinced about the second part... so atleast i will go for the same old route. rest is upto every ones personal choices.

dear sudip..bhattacharya.......

thats what i said its not a one man show.so why to force friday only.even i want it to be the group effort.......i am not forcing anyone. i dont think giving suggestion or opinion is forcing some1. it was only a thinking which i shared with other people thats it

well you might be easy on friday evenings...but not everyone so i was reffering from other people point of view who cannot skip their class, office some important work for evening ride on friday and they might show up on weekends.........

this was my personal thinking that i dont like riding same place every ride.......and i have my rights to express my views.

well for friday issue .i know this happens in many cities. i dont know the reasons but people are following western trends...........but here on friday, people are working so coming for ride its difficult.so that was my point.

in the end i am just a small part of cycling, critical mass whatever and its kind of passion so just wanted to share my feelings ,opinions, suggestions nothing more...........i apologise to the whole community

i apologise to the whole community, if sharing my views hurts anyone.but i spoke my heart out

i am not out to rule the world. so chill.......

Hi Rachit,
Critical Mass is organised everywhere on Fridays, only due to the fact that Fridays are working days, & generally crowded. That's why, they start @ 6 PM @ Peak Hours. Because, they want to show that cyclists have their right on the roads too, so that other people tend not to forget cycles.
That's the whole idea. However, if someone wants to ride on Saturdays, or any other day, They can always do it.

But, I support the idea of changing the route (afterall there should be some change, fun....as other roads will also be crowded & they should be able to see cyclists on roads).

Dear All,

As a neutral third party, I can say that neither person is wrong in expressing their opinion.

I do tend to agree that Rachit's email sounded a bit forceful and may have elicited the reaction from Sudip.

I think that Saturday may be a better option for working people (without citing Bangalore or any other city -- in western countries people leave offices by 5 p.m. on Friday evenings and dont work weekends. Also cycling is more evolved there with many more people, so crowds will always be more even on Friday evening).

I work Fridays and never leave office before 7:30 p.m. in Gurgaon. Satuday is an off day for me, so it is much more feasible to participate.

I am sure everyone should express their views now, so there can be a mass popular decision to make this the most impactful event possible.

ps -- I have no relation to Rachit Mehta, in case you are looking at the common surname ;-)

Greetings,
I only mention that you can always do rides, on any given day of the week...rather, we all do that...However, Critical Mass is a different trend all together. It has a message that we Cyclists also exists on roads & to gain respect on road. That is the reason to do it on Fridays.

Hey Rachit,

I really appreciate your efforts in streamlining the cycle rides.
And I also wanted to shift it to a SAT evening.
And as per your apologies, I dont think you should really do that, coz then u r apologzing for your point of views.
Whatever Sudip said was his stance...So please Rachit, keep pushing all of us for more rides and your suggestions on this group are very very important.

Dear Cyclistas,

It doesn't make a difference to me which day CM is. I work on
Saturdays and cycle everyday.

I don't participate in most group rides because they're not my thing.

If you prefer to pedal instead of contribute to this discussion, then
by all means, the road is yours.

No one owns CM--it doesn't matter if you're Lance Armstrong, senior or
junior, or whatever.

However, it's now only a few days before the weekend. Messages have
already been posted in several forums that the ride will be on Fri. I
suggest keeping the date for Fri. this time, and changing next month
to Sat.

We've had greater turnout in other months, even when it was on Fri. On
the last ride, we didn't send out notification until a few days before
the ride. Why not work on getting your friends to come no matter which
day it is?

For those living/working too far away why not participate in, or start
a local CM ride?

Best,

Tak

OK, SERIOUSLY....

how many people on this forum do serious biking?

I ain't sure what'd qualify as 'serious biking' but I am sure it is
definitely more than 'one-ride-over-the-weekend'.

just curious!

That's easy to answer. SERIOUS cyclists wear spandex. Seriously, why
does it matter?

The "real" serious cyclists are the ones that you see everyday on the
Delhi roads--like your peons, security guards and malis. What is more
serious than relying on your cycle for your livelihood?

My vote is to keep the ride for Fri. this month, and shift to try out
Sat next month. If no-one has any objections, I'm going to send out a
reminder email first thing tomorrow morning to various forums.

best,

Tak
