Dear Friends,
Kamla di left us to the other side on this day, four years ago...we remember her always through her songs, her words, her writings, her posters and her feminist camaraderie.

Today, I remember her once again as she is the one who triggered me to initiate the Beyond Borders Feminist Film Festival. One day, during the pandemic, Kamla Bhasin called me and asked "I am loving all the films Kriti Film Club is showing online! Can we do an online screening to celebrate South Asian Women's Day since we can't do it physically this year?" I said “ofcourse and we can do more than one film too”!

I then conceptualised this as a South Asian festival of films and organised its first online edition from 30th November to 10th December 2020 on our online portal ‘Doculive’. Kamla di supported the online tech expenses through Sangat. The festival was named in sync with the unforgettable quote “I am not a wall that divides – I am a crack in that wall”—that pushes us to challenge and break through patriarchal, social, religious walls within and across the South Asian region.

In mid-2021, I remember my last conversation with her "A, hope you are working on this year's festival. I said Yes!" Kamla di left us on 25th September 2021, but my promise to her and commitment to the South Asian Feminist solidarity did not and the second edition was organsied. Post-Covid, with our amazing Kriti Film Club volunteers, some basic support from Jagori, hybrid festivals were organised in 2022, 2023 and 2024 (in the edition, some more support came from amazing friends). More about the previous festivals is here

This year, as we are gearing up for the 6th edition,we are facing a big challenge for funds as previous commitments cannot continue due to their realities. I am seeking urgent funds for the 6th Beyond Borders Feminist Film Festival's in-person and online edition, as well as a travelling edition of the festival until March 2026.

If you or any friends are able to make an individual donation, here is the link to contribute: https://milaap.org/fundraisers/support-beyond-borders-feminist-film-festival

If you are able to directly or through a connect, enable an institutional grant, partnership or sponsorship to cover travel, hospitality, and other expenses, please write to me on aancha...@hotmail.com | space...@gmail.com

Each of you will be invited to the festival and acknowledged publicly for your support.

With the power of love and friendship
Aanchal

Dear Aanchal ,

We are loving your idea of this online festival at SMS.  We would like to showcase it,  via a projector , for women in the community. The icing on this cake is the germination of the idea, with Kamla Di. Looking forward to it.

God bless you for this effort
Warm regards
Archana Kaul
