Dear All
I understand the Delhi Govt is planning on doing away with Tongas in Delhi.
This would mean the end of a centuries-old institution. Many people
would go out of employment as well.
It struck me that there might be a number of sites where tongas could
be introduced and where they might be useful ... the JNU Campus for
example.
I wonder if some JNU staff and students could be induced to take up the idea.
Of course it needs to be ensured that this environmentally friendly
mode of transport conforms also to standards of ethical treatment
towards animals.
There might be other suitable sites for possible introduction of the
tonga : the Zoo for example, where visitors could use the tonga to go
around. This would help the aged, the infirm and the children.
Cheers
