Doctor Who is a British science fiction television programme produced by the BBC. As of 22 June 2024,[update] 883 episodes of Doctor Who have aired. This includes one television movie and multiple specials, and encompasses 311 stories over 40 seasons, starting in 1963. Additionally, four charity specials and two animated serials have also been aired. The programme's high episode count has resulted in Doctor Who holding the world record for the highest number of episodes of a science-fiction programme.[1] As of November 2023, up to a seventeenth series of the revived era has been planned.[2]

In 2005, the BBC relaunched Doctor Who after a 15-year absence from episodic television, with Russell T Davies, Julie Gardner, and Mal Young as executive producers, Phil Collinson as producer, and Christopher Eccleston taking the lead role of the Ninth Doctor.

This series centres on River Song's relation to the Doctor, the Doctor's "death" and discovering what the Silence is. The original transmission of series 6 was split into two parts, with the first seven episodes airing April to June 2011 and the final six from late August to October 2011.

Series 7 started with five episodes and a Christmas special in late 2012, followed by eight episodes in 2013. It dealt with the exit of the Ponds, the Great Intelligence and the mystery of Clara Oswald, the Impossible Girl.

The specials focus on various incarnations of the Doctor, including the return of the Tenth Doctor and the reveal of the War Doctor and his actions during the Time War. Alongside the two specials there was a bonus short titled "The Night of the Doctor", which depicted Paul McGann's Eighth Doctor's final moments, and his regeneration into John Hurt's War Doctor.

This series dealt with the mystery of the vault and the Doctor's oath, later exploring the Doctor and Missy's relationship, and the possibility of Missy "turning good". This season introduces Bill Potts (Pearl Mackie) and Nardole (Matt Lucas) as the Doctor's companions.

For series 11, the episode count was reduced from twelve to ten with each episode's runtime increasing by five minutes. The Thirteenth Doctor initially searched for her lost TARDIS, inadvertently bringing her companions with her on her travels, who contemplated returning to their lives but decided to continue travelling. The series also dealt with grief. The time slot was changed to Sunday.

This series dealt with a new incarnation of the Master, the return of Jack Harkness, the appearance of an unknown incarnation of the Doctor who existed at some point before the Time War, and the "Lone Cyberman", while following the destruction of Gallifrey and the secret of the Timeless Child. The special marked the last regular appearance of Graham and Ryan.

Series 13 consisted of a single story arc, subtitled Flux. It involved a universe-ending anomaly, called the "Flux", which brought several enemies together in an attempt to take over Earth. It also featured the Division from Series 12.[18][19] Dan Lewis (John Bishop) joined the series as a new companion.

The Fourteenth Doctor was portrayed by David Tennant, who previously portrayed the Tenth Doctor.[20] Russell T Davies returned as showrunner, partnering with Bad Wolf to co-produce and Disney+ regarding distribution outside the UK to celebrate the 60th anniversary and "series beyond".[21]

These specials celebrated Doctor Who's 60th anniversary. They reunited the Doctor with Donna Noble; introduced The Meep on-screen; involved thwarting a threat at the universe's edge; re-introduced The Toymaker; and concluded with the Fourteenth Doctor's unique bi-generation and answering why their tenth incarnation's face returned.

The Christmas special introduced Ruby Sunday (Millie Gibson), an orphan experiencing bad luck caused by the antics of goblins, while the following season centred around the mystery of Ruby's birth, as well as a mysterious woman who appeared in different forms within each of the Doctor and Ruby's adventures. The series released at midnight on BBC iPlayer in the UK, with the BBC broadcast happening the following Saturday evening.[24]

A Christmas special will air on 25 December 2024, followed by the eight-episode fifteenth series in 2025.[6] Millie Gibson is expected to return alongside a new companion, played by Varada Sethu.[26] Filming occurred between 23 October 2023 and 25 May 2024.[27][28]

A third series with Davies as showrunner was being planned by November 2023.[2] Gatwa commented on returning in April 2024.[31] By that June, Davies was working on the fourth script for the series, despite it not yet being commissioned, with recording expected to begin in early 2025, and an expected release within 2026.[32]

In the Julie Anne Robinson directed Space Babies, is Golda Rosheuvel (Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story) who joins Doctor Who as Jocelyn, who the Doctor and Ruby collide with in their first adventure in the TARDIS together.

New episodes will then debut weekly across BBC iPlayer, BBC One and outside of the UK on Disney+ (where available), with the Steven Moffat penned adventure Boom up next, followed by 73 Yards, Dot and Bubble, Rogue, and a massive two part finale spread across two weeks titled The Legend of Ruby Sunday and Empire of Death.

Over the rest of the season there are an array of brilliant guest stars jumping aboard the TARDIS, including Callie Cooke, Dame Sin Phillips, Alexander Devrient, Bhav Joshi, Majid Mehdizadeh-Valoujerdy, Tachia Newall and Caoilinn Springall.

They join the previously announced guest cast: Michelle Greenidge, Angela Wynter, Anita Dobson, Aneurin Barnard, Yasmin Finney, Jonathan Groff, Gwon Morris Jones, Bonnie Langford, Genesis Lynea, Jemma Redgrave, Lenny Rush and Indira Varma.

Hello and welcome! This will be the last one for a little while. So, lets focus on the brain. Like always, my info is from 10+ year old knowledge, and the internet. I make mistakes, but only try to learn.

Inoperable Glioma is thrown around quite a bit in this episode, but what is it, exactly? It is a tumor that grows in the brain or spine, and the placement is either too deep or too wrapped around a certain area that makes it inoperable. In the episode, too many arteries flow by the tumor, making surgery impossible. Cancer cells will always spread, unless the original made, or it is benign. They give him 12 months before the tumor is too big and will kill him.

Glioblastoma is what they think he has during the second imaging. It is a Glioma, but super aggressive, and tend to be resilient to conventional medication like chemo. It also spreads faster, which is why he is given 1/4th of his previous prognosis.

Low grade glioma is the final prognosis, with a biopsy to confirm. It is also the best, as the cancer spreads the slowest, making the treatment more successful. The man was given hope to treatment, and I hope it goes well.

Every one of the cancers mentioned are all possible, but Low Grade is most common, thankfully. But, the problem with cancer cells in the brain is the fact it will push up on other parts, disrupting normal brain functions. Sometimes people forget the right word. Sometimes they forget who they are. My grandmother passed away from brain cancer, which had started in her lungs. The reason Shaun mentioned other tumors is yes, it can spread, but they are all the same cancer, just in different area, so a biopsy of a tumor which is reachable, like a lung, can tell the doctors what type of cancer they are dealing with. I remember how she asked me to play this song, For Whom the Bell Tolls, and by the end of the song, forgot she asked, so asked again. 3 hours I played the song, and have yet to hear it again.

The genius surgeon with autism and savant syndrome spearheads an unprecedented treatment to save his friend and former colleague Dr. Claire Browne, played by original cast member Antonia Thomas, who returned for the final two episodes.

RIP Dr. Aaron Glassman (Richard Schiff), the mentor and father figure who fought to hire Shaun at San Jose St. Bonaventure Hospital seven seasons ago. Glassman's brain cancer returned in the penultimate May 14 episode, and the brilliant neurosurgeon dies in the finale.

"The finale presented one case where the solution was found due to Shaun's refusal to give up, and one case where Shaun needed to accept what he couldn't help," says executive producer Liz Friedman. "The most challenging thing for Shaun is letting go of the idea of helping Dr. Glassman medically and simply being there for him emotionally."

"Good Doctor" fans have seen this high-stakes scenario before, with very different results. In the Season 1 finale, Shaun went on a mission to find a cure for Glassman's terminal brain cancer diagnosis. Glassman was ready to give up, taking Shaun on the carousel he frequented with his daughter to talk about dying.

This time, Shaun realizes there won't be a miracle solution for Glassman. However, the surgeon is adamant about administering untested treatment to Claire, even though the Food and Drug Administration denied the emergency use of the potential cure his team developed.

"I'm going to give it to her anyway, And I won't be a doctor anymore. And that's OK," Shaun tells his wife Lea (Paige Spara) and Glassman, knowing he'll lose his medical license. "I don't need to save everyone; I just need to save Claire."

The location of Shaun's speech is crucial: It's the same hospital conference room where Glassman passionately pounded the table and carried the day advocating for Shaun's hiring in the September 2017 pilot episode. In that premiere, Shaun spoke poignantly in the same boardroom about wanting to be a surgeon to save lives. "And I want to make a lot of money, so I can have a television" he added.

The finale jumps ahead 10 years, as Shaun, now chief of surgery, gives Glassman a eulogy of sorts during a TED Talk that he dedicates to his mentor. The audience is filled with Glassman's Bonaventure Hospital family, including Browne, who sits with her partner Dr. Jared Kalu (Chuku Modu) and their smiling young daughter.
