I would expect this to be somewhere in the preferences or in the Spelling options, or else somewhere in the Text-menu or maybe even the Paragraph panel, but can't find it anywhere. Also searched the help on language and spelling, but no satisfying results there either. I might be missing something here..

Ah, now I get it! Thanks!
So the spelling language could actually be set to the base style once per document so we have the same language throughout the whole document. Except for when we change a style to not inherit that language from the base style, but set to a different language for that style.

And when we have set a style to a textframe, or only to one or more characters, words or lines inside it, even then, we can still override the spelling language in the Character-tab for only a selection of text! So if we have a textframe full of Dutch text we are still able to select a word or a line and put that piece to be spelling-checked in Spanish...

So if I would like to create some textframes and have them all on Dutch spelling check, I just change the language of the base style to Dutch and make sure at least some style is selected when creating the textframes (like the 'Body'-style) and everything is checked in Dutch.

I don't consider it a bug that BBEdit does not try to spell for me. If it did, the first thing I would find out is how to turn it off. I do not often use the spell checker either. There are so many blocks of text that are not dictionary words that I use when I'm using BBEdit that an auto-correct would be more of a nuisance than a help.If I need to write some text where I want that continual spelling feed-back, I use one of the many fine word processors that are available free or at cost. It is easy to write up text in a word processor, highlight and move it into BBEdit if need be.My opinion is to thank Bare Bones for not including such a beast.Respectfully,
Bucky

mrs_mamaof7 I am SO disgusted with the comments coming over!! Our society is completely [expletive] up! Some of you are so cruel! Does it really make you feel better to say mean things? Try being a good person for a day. It's not OUR job to comment on her family. Its OUR job to be decent human beings and compliment each other. I am a mother of 7 and if any of my children said any of the things some of you ADULTS are saying, I would know I completely failed as a parent. @torispelling enjoy having all your babies together mama! You have a beautiful family that you work hard for. (May) your day be filled with special memories and sunshine. ?

This may seem trivial but I just have to ask! What is the proper way of spelling the short form of Hasselblad; is it "Hassy", "Hassey", or "Hassie". I myself have been using Hassy... and would use "Blad" to evade the spelling issue but it sounds like someone throwing up!
