Welcome to my Summer newsletter!

“Garden Twists” (47" x 47") is ready to be basted and quilted. I will show you the whole design in the Fall newsletter. In the meantime, I’ll give you a look at some of the details.
This quilt consists of 96 medium and tiny Color Twists. I reduced the size of my Color Twist blocks (Wiggles & Waves book page 60) by starting with 4½” and 3” squares instead of 6½” squares.
If you would like to try these smaller sizes, here are the measurements for marking the intervals to cut the arcs:
4½” square (1”/2¼”/3¼”) medium size
3” square (¾”/1½”/2¼”) tiny!
Instead of squaring the blocks I left them untrimmed so they could be “collaged together”….leaving raw edges, which will be covered by tulle later in the assembly process.

If you have made either of my Color Twists or Rose Twirls blocks, you know that there is some fabric to be cut away from the back and also the leftover center fabric pieces.

I put all of those fabric scraps to good use by making these tiny raw-edge circle “flowers." I stayed with the color palette of my 4 Color Twist colors: purple, yellow/orange/red, pink and blue.

The color palette for this quilt was inspired by a Kaffe Fassett fabric, which had the multi-color flowers on a green/black background. My Color Twists are arranged in radiating circles with the four colors in four different quadrants.

Patricia Moller from Delaware, is hooked on making Happy Villages. Here is her recent creation entitled “Village of Hope,” which includes so many adorable details. Check out the dog house, music school, embroidered flowers, etc… She is donating this piece to an auction to raise funds for the MD Anderson Cancer Center. Thank you for sharing your creativity Patricia!
Instructions to get you started making your own village

Wave Runner
topstitched CURVES
Time to make waves! If you took my Wiggles & Waves workshop you know how easy these topstitched curves are to make! You may have even completed a Wave Runner on your own after the class, if so, I would love to see it!

This table runner (14" x 51") was given to my son to celebrate the completion of building a small sail boat. I call it “Smooth Sailing.”
The basics of the the topstitched curves are in the Wiggles & Waves book, but not this actual table runner.

Accidental Landscapes: Beaches
July 17, 2024 12:30pm - 3:30pm EST
Here is an introduction to creating little landscapes “accidentally” using Karen’s layered topstitching technique. These little beach scenes are quick and easy to make, no templates, no fuss - just free form rotary cutting and topstitched edges. Personalize your beach by adding collage details like a dune fence, beach grass, shells, sailboats, beach chairs, umbrellas, lighthouses, photo transfers, etc. Beach scene measurements vary. Approx. 8 x 12 without borders.
The Beaches pattern will be included free as a handout for workshop participants.

Layered Log Cabin
August 21, 2024 12:30pm - 3:30pm EDT
Let’s start with the well loved traditional Log Cabin block. Then free-form cut the logs, topstitch the curves AND feature a fun image in the center instead of the classic red square. Select a large print and some lights and darks to coordinate with it and you are on your way to building some very sassy blocks with topstitched curves and perky little triangles. Note: You have the option to use a plain fabric center instead of a printed image.
Wiggles & Waves book is optional for class, but is highly recommended!
