The built-in Microsoft Windows Update service may not update your drivers properly. Instead, use The Camera Driver Update Utility for Microsoft. NI-IMAQ drivers are for National Instruments framegrabbers. These drivers ship with the hardware, but the online drivers are more current. The NI 1407, NI 1409 and NI 1410 video frame grabbers are all supported but the NI 1408 is not. Durango does not use any of the optional NI-IMAQ features, although you may wish to install the documention. You must install NI-IMAQ drivers before installing your NI-IMAQ framegrabber.
NI-IMAQdx drivers are for FireWire, GigE and USB cameras, none of which require any National Instruments hardware. NI-IMAQdx therefore requires a paid license, although you may install it for a 30 day evaluation. Many of the optional features are not required by Durango. Do not select the "High Performance 64-bit GigE Vision" feature unless you need it to support a GigE camera.

IEEE 1394 is a standard that also includes functions for enumerating and setting up the camera capabilities. You can acquire images from any industrial IEEE 1394 camera and OHCI-compliant IEEE 1394 adapter using NI-IMAQ for IEEE 1394 Cameras driver software, which you can purchase at ni.com.
NI-IMAQ driver software is designed to scale between many types of acquisition methods, as shown in Figure 6. This design consideration means that you can start using a low-cost, RS-170 camera and image acquisition device and upgrade later to a faster, higher-resolution camera and device with minimal software changes. To start using a new camera or device, all you need to do is configure the new hardware in MAX, the configuration utility for NI devices. Because NI-IMAQ uses one set of function calls that work for a wide variety of cameras, you do not need to rewrite your software.
