Here is a good article concerning the process the county is going
through as they evaluate options for cutting costs. The very first
thing they do is look at the number of students - state funding favors
schools with more than 450 students. Heritage doesn't have the
capacity to support more than 400 students and the county doesn't have
the capital to add on. These economic facts won't change for years.
Legal scandals concerning top officials and the inertia of the system
in general will probably mean that Heritage sits as is for years to
come. The school system very rarely sells land - they hold on to
land just in case demographics change. The only thing I think could
be a possible alternative would be a state funded charter school.
