The board president said that it was cost/money that kept them from
putting the academy at the old Briarcliff High School and that it did
not have a cafeteria. Also, he nixed the idea of the Kittiridge site
because it is now the home of the International Student Center.

That may well be true but the real reason the board is not committing
anything new to either of those sites(which are next door to each
other and across the street from Target on N Druid Hills for those
that are unfamiliar with the locations) is the lingering hope of
selling that whole parcel. Sembler tried to buy all of that land
including some apartments behind them and build a mixed use
development. With the economy as is, the deal is no longer. However,
the board still wants to sell all of that land. So, they are not going
to place new schools there.

Yeah and the "temporary" nine-year location of DSA at Briarcliff (and the lack of a  cafeteria for nine years)...well you get the picture.  We don't trust this Superintendent after the DSA debacle.

That site seems capable of handling the traffic, and has a cafeteria.  Where would the money go if the parcel of land was sold?

And I would question the reasons given for not locating the MCI HS at the old Briarcliff HS site, even temporarily.  At the 4/13 meeting, Dr. Lewis said that it would cost 9 million to make the Briarcliff HS site a temporary location for the MCI HS and 34 million to make it a permanent location for the MCI HS.  9 million and 34 million are substantial sums.  Is the school board willing to tell us how they arrived at these numbers?  If not, will they be open with us regarding their evaluation of the suitability of the other 5 to 7 locations that are purportedly under consideration as permanent locations for the MCI HS?

And why is the Briarcliff campus a suitable temporary location for the Elizabeth Andrews students in its current condition, but not the MCI HS students?  If the DSA students can go without a cafeteria for 9 years, why is it so necessary to have one for the MCI HS students?  If the marines want to give the students a taste of life in the military, can't they supply them with MREs?

VERY good points!  Like I said at Thursday's meeting at Briarcliff HS -- they are Marines.  They are tough.  And aren't the DeKalb officials babying them too much?  But, the biggest question (and what makes us have no foundation for trusting them) is:  "why is the Briarcliff campus a suitable temporary location for the Elizabeth Andrews students in its current condition, but not the MCI HS students?  If the DSA students can go without a cafeteria for 9 years, why is it so necessary to have one for the MCI HS students?"
