So, after being in the shop for 10 days to replace a lousy fuel pump, I
picked the bike up Friday PM. Jumped on today for a long anticipated
ride. Bike went two blocks and died. Symptoms include starts again,
runs for a few blocks and dies. The dealer "claims" the took it out for
an extended test ride and all was well.

Any suggestions on what might be the problem would be greatly
appreciated.

Keep it in your knickers,
Tov

While I was at my dealers talking to a fellow rider who had his '99
V92C in the shop for a TPS adjustment, I witnessed a similar problem.
During the TPS adjustment the bike would just die. Would restart and
run for a while and then die again. The mechanic finally got the TPS
adjusted and took the bike out for a test ride and it died again and
restarted. The bike was left at the shop for resolution to the problem.
I heard later from the owner that the problem was repaired by fixing a
loose wiring/bad wiring contact problem. No specifics.
I'd like to suggest removing the side covers and gently wiggling the
wiring and connectors (actually any wiring and connectors) while the
bike is running, to see if you can get the problem to repeat at will.
If you could find a loose wire, repair by recrimp or solder. Bad
contacts can sometimes be repaired by using a pencil eraser to clean
the copper/gold contact.

I hope this helps, good luck

Here's the really weird part. After I sent this mail, I went over to
the gas station and got a couple containers of 89 octane. The bike took
about 3 gal's to top off (had 1.8 before and showed full afterwards -
so seems normal). Started it up and it ran fine. Drove it a few miles
without problem. Today I took it out for a 30 mile run. No problems.
I'm thinking perhaps there was a vapor lock freed up when I opened the
tank. Anyway, go figure! I'm still going to check all the conectors as
you suggested.
