Anyone have any plans for the summer?? What are they??

We are just planning on a few long weekends camping. We are planning a
trip to Disney World in October, guess that will be our big trip this
year.

Big family trip first week of July: Port Huron to the Tobermory
Peninsula in Canada, ferry to Manitoulin Island, drive to Sault Ste.
Marie, then St. Ignace, visit Mackinac, drive to Traverse City, then
meet up with Joyce's folks for a day or two at Crystal Lake. Kind of a
big round trip.

A week later I'm off to Mexico for a week - teen missions trip at our
church.

The rest of the summer will be spent recuperating. :)

Sounds cool, Bob. There's so much to see in MI and up north... sometimes
I wish I had done more in-state travel when I was growing up. My family
always did a lot of traveling during the Summer (one of the few perks of
having a teacher-Dad), but we usually headed South. Florida to see the
grandparents when they were living or Mississippi to see the aging aunts
and uncles on my Dad's side and then later to Tennessee when one or the
other of me/my sibs were going to TTU.

Maryland is kind of a weird state for vacations (just ask Marsha). I
know people who have lived here all their lives and have never gone
anywhere but the yearly pilgrimage to Ocean City.

No big vacays for us this Summer, unfortunately. Ron and I are both
stuck in grad school hell. I still haven't gotten over that childhood
belief that Summer is supposed to be FUN!

In article <8fcpal$6vo$1...@nnrp1.deja.com>,
Hi Margie-
Yes, Michigan is a pretty cool state to travel in. When we were kids,
my family usually did one vaca in MI and then one to MD. Mike and I
like to travel in MI now. We love to show Philip all of the cool
spots. He loved the sand dunes. Yes, MD is kind of a weird state-no
one really travels outside of it. And you can have OC. Too
commercialized there for me. I like to visit my relatives and all the
old towns nearby them, but that is about it for now. In fact, coming
down June 9 for Fri, Sat and home on Sun. Short trip, but fun.
Try to have fun this summer - even if in school. I am like you -
summer is for fun!! Best part of being a kid!

I could use a vacation right now! We were trying to do a repeat of
last year's vacation with my husband's family - Hilton Head. That was
spectacular, but not everyone could get off work at the same time. So
now we are following my husband to a conference at Disney World in the
middle of July. You'll find me by the pool! We'll check out Mickey in
the am and swim in the pm.

Speaking of Michigan vacations, I need one. I have lived here all my
miserable life and have never been further north than Saginaw. Like
you Margie, my parents always dragged us to where we had relatives or
friends (relatives in Illinois, Denver at the time, Missouri, etc. and
visited the Graziotti's in Maine). So much for our travel. I think it
was mostly money related. Had to stay where it was the cheapest!

We used to do an annual summer trip to the east coast, but Long Island.
Now that my inlaws are both gone and the beach we used to go to was
always closed for pollution reasons, erosion (the beach was lost in a
hurricane a few years ago) and then the crash of the TWA flight, we
have not had much of a reason to return!

Were you in grad school last summer Marg? Good luck. I've considered
going back so I can stay at Lawrence Tech (you can only teach the same
class as an adjunct for so many semesters in a row), but the time and
the expense would be a killer. And for academic purposes, I would go
straight for the PhD and skip right over the masters degree. Then I
could become a full-time faculty member, but I'm not sure if that
interests me enought to spend all that time and money! The adjunct
stuff is fun since it is a change of pace, but I can still do the real
design work during the majority of the time. Good Luck!

Well, hope ya'll had a wonderful Mother's Day!
Jill
