US Robotics 56k modems and procomm

I am trying to send data via Procomm to the Advantis network using
a 56k Us Robotics modem. The data transfer protocol is x-modem and
the terminal emulation is vt-100. The same send script works with
lower speed modems. It will not work with a higher speed modem.
Does anyone have suggestions on how to debug modem problems? There
is so little information passed back during transmission that there
is no indication of a problem. It just does not work. Any help
would be appreciated.
