Is it possible to understand the Godhead?
PART ONE
The Godhead and the Lord Jesus Christ.
At this moment in time I believe the New Testament as we have it is
Inspired and can like the Old Testament be regarded as Scripture. In
this article I have used the Name Jesus written above. I know His
correct Hebrew Name has been mistranslated and should be Yahusha. I
have used the English name which is equivalent to Iesous in Greek. This
Greek Name adds up to 888, and Christians know the Number for Jesus is
8, which is also the Number for Resurrection. Also hidden in the Greek
Language is the Number of the Elect which is 153. This has no
connection with the esoteric Cabbala which I reject as evil and related
to the Occult. It has become the text book of Theosophists and other
esoteric groups.
He is known by most believers in the English Speaking World as the Lord
Jesus. Paul writes in Colossians 2:9 "For in him dwelleth all the
fulness of the Godhead bodily." He is God and Man.
It would be good if Christians had never heard the word Trinity with
all its Pagan connections. The conception of the Trinity has
brainwashed the Christian World into accepting a Mythical concept of
God and the doctrine of Christ. As children going to school most of us
had already accepted the Trinity as the true name of the Godhead.
Unlike Americans, we had an assembly with Prayer and Scripture Reading,
yet for all that Britain is far more Pagan than America. My schooling
was of course in Nairobi, Kenya Colony, East Africa.
When I started putting these thoughts together I really believed that I
was a Trinitarian Bible Believer. Now I have doubts, because if I am
Trinitarian, my views differ from the Theologians. Is it possible to be
Trinitarian and not believe "God the Father, God the Son and God the
Holy Spirit." I have no problem with God the Father and God the Holy
Spirit, but how can I believe in God the Son when I believe on the
Feast of Trumpets 1999, He will be only 2,000 years old since His
birth. He was born in BC 2, and became Perfect Man, as well as the Son
of God. He was not less than God because He manifested the invisible
God in His humanity. Paul wrote in Colossians 1:15 "Who is the image of
the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature." It is not possible
for Him to be the Son of God before His birth and before His
resurrection when He became the firstborn of every creature.
The Doctrine of the Messiah
The Dual Nature of Jesus the Christ
I do not take any credit for many of the thoughts in this article which
are taken from the Book "Is Jesus in the Godhead or is the Godhead in
Jesus " by the late Gordon Magee. I believe this is the truth about the
Godhead, and needs to be taught far and wide. I have attempted to do
so, using my own words where necessary.
I feel sure most people reading this are Trinitarian. The reason for
this is that they have not been permitted to think for themselves. This
is the doctrine described by the first article in the Book of Common
Prayer:
I. Of Faith in the Holy Trinity.
There is but one living and true God, everlasting, without body, parts
or passions; of Infinite Power, wisdom and goodness; the Maker, and
Preserver of all things both visible and invisible. And in unity of
this Godhead there be three Persons, of one substance, power and
eternity; the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost.
I agree that there is but One living God who is Everlasting. I consider
the rest to be the thoughts of Theologians. If they believe in the
Eternal Son of God, why do they describe Him without body, parts and
passions? In His humanity He had body, parts and passions. I agree that
He is God the Father and God the Holy Spirit, but not God the Son until
He was born of Mary.
Some may asks about the appearances in the Old Testament, for example
to Abraham at Mamre, Genesis 18:1 "And the LORD appeared unto him in
the plains of Mamre: and he sat in the tent door in the heat of the day
And he lift up his eyes and looked, and, lo, three men stood by him:
and when he saw [them], he ran to meet them from the tent door, and
bowed himself toward the ground." We know there were three men, and
that One of them was the Lord, Genesis 18:16-18, "And the men rose up
from thence, and looked toward Sodom: and Abraham went with them to
bring them on the way. And the LORD said, Shall I hide from Abraham
that thing which I do; Seeing that Abraham shall surely become a great
and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in
him?"
As the maker and preserver of all things, it would be possible for the
One Invisible God and Father to reveal Himself in human flesh, to this
very special man who was His friend. The Scripture Text for this is in
Isaiah 41:8 "But thou, Israel, [art] my servant, Jacob whom I have
chosen, the seed of Abraham my friend." We have no doubt whatsoever
that this was Yahweh or Jehovah, and the other two were angels.
Scripture teaches us about the Godhead. However if we say there are
three persons of One eternity, then we are making Jesus is permanently
less than God the Father. He was either, always the Son, and therefore
always less than Deity, or else He became the Son and less than deity
to complete only the full period of His Son-ship. However, even as the
Son, Scripture teaches He was Deity. In His Humanity He was not of One
Eternity, but was in His Deity and Divinity. This phrase coupled with
the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, describes in my logical view, three
Gods, God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. It is the
same writing the Eternal Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Does the Bible
teach that He was always the Son of God? I believe it teaches that the
Eternal Father only became the Son of God, conceived by the Eternal
Holy Spirit in the womb of the Virgin Mary as she then was.
I believe in One God and Father who only became the Son of God when He
was born through the Holy Spirit in Bethlehem. Yet he became Perfect
Man, at the same time being also continually and eternally, Perfect
Deity. He was perfect deity before He became perfect man. At no other
time was He Perfect man. There are of course Prophetic Scriptures which
describe His future Son-ship and perfect manhood. These Scriptures were
fulfilled when He came into this world. As the Son of God He claimed
the Father dwelt in Him by the Holy Spirit. He was in my view not less
than the Father or the Son.. I therefore believe in the Father, and the
Son, and the Holy Spirit. The term God the Father, God the Son, and God
the Holy Spirit is not acceptable, because He only became the Son of
His Father when He was born of Mary. I intend to prove this showing
from Scripture that He was not the Son prior to His birth.
In this article we will also consider the treatise of Adam Clark on
this subject at the end of the article. He was a Presbyterian Minister
and therefore a Trinitarian. He obviously did not believe in God the
Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit, because he regards the
doctrine of Eternal Sonship as a dangerous doctrine. Below is the
description given in the Westminster Confession. They unfortunately
accept the same view as the Anglican Communion. There is much written
here with when I would agree wholeheartedly.
OF GOD AND OF THE HOLY TRINITY.
SECTION I.—There is but one only living and true God, who is infinite
in being and perfection, a most pure spirit, invisible, without body,
parts, or passions, immutable, immense, eternal, incomprehensible,
almighty, most wise, most holy, most free, most absolute, working all
things according to the counsel of his own immutable and most righteous
will, for his own glory; most loving, gracious, merciful, long-
suffering, abundant in goodness and truth, forgiving iniquity,
transgression, and sin; the rewarder of them that diligently seek him;
and withal most just and terrible in his judgments; hating all sin, and
who will by no means clear the guilty.
SECTION II-God hath all life, glory, goodness, blessedness, in and of
himself; and is alone in and unto himself all-sufficient, not standing
in need of any creatures which he hath made, not deriving any glory
from them, but only manifesting his own glory, in, by, unto, and upon
them: he is the alone fountain of all being, of whom, through whom, and
to whom, are all things; and hath most sovereign dominion over them, to
do by them, for them, or upon them, whatsoever himself pleaseth. In his
sight all things are open and manifest; his knowledge is infinite,
infallible and independent upon the creature, so as nothing is to him
contingent or uncertain. He is most holy in all his counsels, in all
his works and in all his commands. To him is due from angels and men,
and every other creature, whatsoever worship, service, or obedience, he
is pleased to require of them.
SECTION III.-In the unity of the Godhead there be three persons, of one
substance, power, and eternity; God the Father, God the Son, and God
the Holy Ghost. The Father is of none, neither begotten nor proceeding;
the Son is eternally begotten of the Father; the Holy Ghost eternally
proceeding from the Father and the Son..
How can the Son be eternally begotten of the Father when according to
Daniel’s prophecy He was born on 29th September BC 2 and died 33˝ years
later on 3rd April 33 AD? If God had always been the Perfect Man even
before His birth, it would not have been necessary for Him to be born
into this world and become Man, for He would already have been a man
and a Son without a mother. To suggest that the Holy Spirit is His
mother is blasphemous, and we will refer to this again. It introduces
yet another false doctrine by making the Holy Spirit less than deity,
when in fact the Holy Spirit made the Son at birth and baptism
possessor of the Godhead.
Let us now carefully read 1 Timothy 3:I6, "And without controversy
great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh,
justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles,
believed on in the world, received up into glory."
It would be much easier for Trinitarians to explain their beliefs if it
read, "And without controversy great is the mystery of the Holy
Trinity, God was manifested in three Holy Ghosts." I remember being
surprised when I first learned that the word Trinity does not occur in
Scripture. Yet we know this is how it actually reads: "And without
controversy great is the mystery of godliness God was manifest in the
flesh."
The Bible, in its entire sixty-six books, knows nothing at all about a
mysterious Godhead called God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy
Spirit. The great mystery of godliness is the Incarnation-God manifest
in the flesh as described above.
The Humanity of Jesus.
The Scriptures provide multiple proofs of the genuine humanity of Jesus
Christ. Let us examine a few of them, and in doing so we will find that
this composite word portrays the Lord Jesus as having a genuine human
nature. The Lord experienced hunger, Matthew 4:2 "And when he had
fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred." We
all know what it is like to be hungry, and such pangs are normal and
human. We can only imagine how hungry He felt after forty days and
nights. It could be said He was human enough to be hungry.
We know He also slept, Matthew 8:24 "And, behold, there arose a great
tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves:
but he was asleep." He had tremendous faith that His Heavenly Father
would protect Him. In His humanity He truly believed Psalm
121:4 "Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep."
The Holy One of Israel was awake, but in His humanity as the Son of God
he enjoyed sleep which was from God, Psalm 127:2 "[It is] vain for you
to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: [for] so
he giveth his beloved sleep."Sleep is a beautiful sensation of oblivion
that comes to our eyelids as we bury our heads deep into the pillow. It
was experienced by the Lord Jesus Christ and is another proof of His
genuine humanity. He also experienced weariness, John 4:6 "Now Jacob’s
well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with [his] journey, sat
thus on the well: [and] it was about the sixth hour." Jesus and the
disciples had surely been on the road since dawn, and may have
travelled 15 to 20 miles (24 or 32 kilometres.) The sixth hour was
probably noon. Here we see Him in His humanity with the same weariness
which enters our limbs when we are tired and weary. He was genuinely
human in every aspect and in every detail.
When he heard that his friend Lazarus was dead we are told in John
11:35, "Jesus) wept." In His humanity Jesus was touched with human
sorrow, Hebrews 2:17-18, "Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be
made like unto [his] brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful
high priest in things [pertaining] to God, to make reconciliation for
the sins of the people. For in that he himself hath suffered being
tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted." END OF PART ONE
