Hey Guys, I just got back from picking up my Classic manx kit!
WOOOOHOOOO I am so psyched! It looks unreal. Can't wait to get it
together. Bruce and Winnie were also very nice. I am glad to say that it
was really worth the wait for it. They told me that they only made a
couple purple metalflake ones. I am so glad I picked this color. Looks
were nice..and its also very rare...(Towd-dude...Yours is probably even
more rare..right!)

I have a quick question, that maybe someone can answer. On the 7" buggy
headlights, can I purchase just the headlight part(not the housing) that
has a removable bulb like an h4 or something. I seen some advertiser in
JC Whitney, but are unsure if they will work on my buggy.. (will they
fit in the housing?)

Boy I really wish someone was home right now, to help me carry my body
in the garage..so I can get started. I put it outside on the grass so I
could wash it, and wax it :) Now its stuck there till tommorow..because
I cant move it myself. Bummer.
Anyhow, take care guys, and I will try and get some pictures up soon.

Hi PatioMatt, So what's the specs on your purple meany? I am assuming
corvair power right? I almost went corvair power...but I have WAY to
many VW engine parts and stuff lying around.
As for some guys having all the luck...well I dont think I have had any
great luck. I really should be saving my money for a house...but I gotta
have my toys! Now I need to find a house with a BIG garage..to keep all
my toys in.

Jay,

Glad that you like your Classic. Regarding the headlights, I am not
sure what you are asking exactly, but I think that you mean that you
want to replace the bulb with halogens. If that is whatyou meant, you
can put H4s in place of the sealed beams, but you still need to use the
trim ring(or bezel) that holds the bulb unit in.

They work great and you can change to Hyper whites or Ice blues if you
so choose.

Hi Chris..thanks for the advice on the eye bolt trick..worked
excellent! I was WAY over prepared when i picked up my body...After
Bruce saw all the blankets and tie down straps/rope/tape/blocks of
wood.....he asked my why I didn't clean out my truck before I came! LOL

Yeah, on those headlights, they came with sealed beams...Yuck. I just
wanted to know what I have to look for..ie who makes a good set of
halogen lights..with a removable bulb. I gotta super 75 amp alt, so I
thought I could go with some bulbs a bit brighter than sealed beams. I
just wasn't to sure if it would be a drop in installation.

I just got an email from a guys who is also building a Classic manx, and
he is using a Berrien Chassis like myself. He said the new manx wont fit
on the Berrein chassis and fiberglass floor. That is NOT what I wanted
to here. Not real sure why it wont fit, but I guess I will have to see
for my self.

Pattiomatt, Yeah I definatly need to win the lottery! I can see it now.
Ferrari, Lambo, MANX!! LOL

DunebuggyJay,
I don't believe I've heard of anyone so excited about getting something
since I got a new set of Snow Tires.... I have to admit, that Purple
Metalflake sure was good looking, especially in the Sun Light (you
eastcoasters do get Sun Shine don't you?)LOL. Congrats Jay I know it's
been a long wait.Come next spring there'll be a new kid on the block
with an "Awsome" ride. Keep us posted on your progress. For what it's
worth I'm running H-4 Halagon bulbs on my roadster (28 Model A Ford)
and I'd gladly change them to a Halagon Sealed Beam anytime, for me
they just don't throw enough light. If you do go the H-4 route, try to
get your hands on the 65 watt bulbes from a Motorcycle off road shop,
they usually carry them.
I hope someone saves for posterarity these little manafacturing bits of
information:
1. The reason for the flaw of spider webbing around the battery box.
2. The number and type of "One Off" or limited colors.
3. What bodies were made in Mexico/USA.
4. How many were destroyed because of flawed construction.
5. Where there any body's that got built without an "ID Tag".
6. Any other triva that anyone know about.
After all here we are 35 years later trying to reconstruct how and when
the "Orginals" were built.
Congrats ! ! DunebuggyJay, the work ahead is really no "Work At All"

Sun Shine? whats that! Yeah, I am really jealous of you west coasters
who can ride around in their buggys all year round. My old buggy would
come out on easter, and go into storage at the end of sept.

Towd dude, that was a really good list of questions you came up with. I
would love to know the answers to all of them. So do you think that a
sealed halogen light is better than one with a replcable halogen bulb? I
just like the idea of being able to change bulbs when they blow instead
of having to change the whole thing....plus you can just put in some
brighter h4 bulbs anytime you want. I think I have a Speedway catalog
around here, and I think i saw some nice replacents in it. i will have
to check.
Take care guys

Hey PurpleMetalFlakeClassicSignatureManxDuneBuggyJay, what's up? I
was with Towd-Dude at Bruce's a while back & we saw a PurpleMetalFlake
body & WOW it looked awesome!!! Have you found out why the Manx body
doesn't quite fit the Berrien chassis? I talked with a fellow today
that said his cousin bought a Berrien chassis & his body is a Manx-
clone & he had to do some trimming & a few slight mods, but everything
worked out great! Good Luck! I'm going to install the sealed halogen
replacement style lights because they're cheaper & stronger than the
type that uses the H-4 style bulb. I think when you get your PMFCSMDB
finished, you should make a break-in run to the west coast! LOL OR
Let's all meet somewhere in the middle of this here USA!!! LOL We may
have year-round sunshine, but at least you have 4 seasons! LOL
Have Fun...ManxManiac

Hey ManxManiac..It seems that the new Manx body wont fit on the Berrien
chassis, because the Berrien chassis is made for fiberglass body that
have a flat bottom on them. My Manx is flat on the bottom, but then
there is like a little rib as you get closer to the inside of the body.
I had to cut this rib off all the way around, so the body mounting
surfase was flat across. Not a real big deal..but I really hated to do
that. All seems fine so far...except that my shock towers are hitting
the inside of the body. Cant have everything I guess :)

Hopefully I can get some pictures taken soon, so you all can see what I
have accomplished on my buggy. I take pride in my work, so I am the
ONLY one who touchs it. Its my new baby, and I dont trust anyone
touching her but me. :)

I think I would rather have sunshine all year round than 4 seasons.
Fall is okay..but winter stinks, and in spring it just rains all the
time.

Talk to you later
DunebuggyJay
