Well...as you know the buggy is going together pretty well but I've run
into a problem...I've got a 67 turn signal switch (3 wire) and I've got
single tail lights with one 1157 bulb each..I either have turn signals,
or brake lights...not both. So anyone ever run into this problem? I just
found out today..since I work at NAPA that you can buy a converter for a
car with 2 lights to hook up to a trailer with single bulbs, it
appears that it will work fine. ...what are your thoughts on this topic.

Hey Eric, that's the best solution IMHO, I have the same turn signal
switch, but I used the stock 61-67 VW taillights & the brake & turn
have seperate bulbs. I've used the converter before on other projects &
it worked fine. Good Luck & Have Fun...ManxManiac

Eric,
I have used a converter box in a baja bug for years, with no problems.
Have at it,
Jerry

> Hey Mike!

It's been a long time since I've messed around with electronics, but I
tried to draw up a schematic with the diodes in the brake/turn signal
circuit...but I could not make it work on paper. Do you have a diagram of
where the diodes go in the circuit and what directions they need to be wired
in? Thanks, John.

Diodes are like a one-way gate. Current can flow one direction but not
the other. Most diodes have a marking on one end, usually a band,
indicating the direction of current flow. Most VW's have a dual bulb
tail light system. A single filament bulb for turn and a dual filament
bulb for brake/tail lights. In a single bulb tail light system the turn
& brake use the same filament. When you put your turn signal on the
current flows back across the brake wires to the other light, causing
both sides to blink. Placing diodes in the brake light wires will block
the current flow. Just find were the brake light wire branches to the
opposite light. The diodes are place between the branch and the lights
with the marking on the diode toward the light. Current can now flow
from the brake light switch to the lights, but when the turn signals
are used the current flow will stop at the diodes. Hope this helps.
