Fault for the group's stagnancy can also be attributed to another
source. Upon signing with Liberty, Jan and Dean also signed with Al
Nevins and Don Kirshner and their Alson Music publishing
firm. "Unfortunately for us, we signed with them during a dry period,"
remembers Dean bitterly. "All the hit writers were working for them on
the East Coast. Carole King and Gerry Goffin, Barry Mann and Cynthia
Weil, Neil Sedaka, all those guys were cranking out tunes. We stupidly
signed with them thinking they were going to give us hit tunes, and
they never did."
Tunes like "My Favorite Dream" (A Mann-Weil tune) and "The Best Friend
I Ever Had" (by Goffin and King), looked good on the outside but
despite various vocal arrangements employed by Lou Adler, these songs
remain lackluster at best with Dean unable to remember them now.

After listening to the CD, TBFIEH was lackluster. I don't even
remember how it went. A double waste of money. Did G/K et al just
throw chum to the California garage band or was it their vocals that
couldn't pull it off? Any one at all?

Before you buy.
What CD is it? Is it available in record shops? Is a copyright date
given for the song? (was it 1965?) I'd love to get/hear it!

Surfing" That one is under $10 on CDNow I think.

Yes, Snap and T.--The song is on "Takin' Linda Surfing". This is
apparently the 'original' version. There is an 'alternative' version
out there on some cd. What version did ya get, Snap?

I'm sorry, I forgot to mention, I have the Alternate Version.
