Here is a new one I learned. We are on SLX 3.1.6. When you remove a
user from Saleslogix, traditinally there history shows up in Integrity
checker as History with Bad user ID. No biggy you just run the tasks
and 'NULL' out the bad user ID. Well what I have discovered is that
when you cut a new remote database, they do not get any Notes/History
from the deleted users.
Any Userid that shows as NULL in History table they will not receive.
I have reported this to Saleslogix and they recognize it as a problem.
Should be interesting to see the result.

The entire idea of deleting a user seems crazy to me.
Does SalesLogix expect everyone to have no employee turnover?
How do you track sales by people that have quit?

I hate their system and it irritates me to hear that it causes other
problems also.

To track old users, I have actually created another user table and I
use triggers to keep it matching the userinfo table.
When I delete a user, a trigger marks that user as gone but does not
delete them.
I have most of my database pointing to this "archive" table.

Doesn't it bother anyone else that createuser on contacts and accounts
displays "unknown user" when someone quits your company?

This is one of the issues that makes me think that the people at
SalesLogix are capable of making some very obvious stupid mistakes.

Hi-

This is a problem that has only recently come to light for us as we had
enough licenses to cover both the old and new users. I had however
deleted one person who was rather pivotal and just recently found that
her notes etc do not carry over to newly created remotes.

I do have a work around though - if you _resend_ those particular
accounts via a sync ALL the notes/history gets sent. I know this is
not really feasible for large numbers of accounts, but it has stopped
some of the whining. :)

OK, I almost hate to share this, cause it might disappear... but I've
received good info from this board, so here goes...

I've been converting these to Web Users. (Which in turn frees up
WG/Remote users).

Workgroup User: $995 + maintenance
Remote User: $995 + maintenance
Web User: $50 + maintenance

In terms of the value equation (value of knowing who said/did what to
your customers vs. admin time to manage all this b.s.), that web price
point looks pretty good.

I'm sure at some point I'll have to buy more web seats, but at least I
won't need 2 levels of expense approval.

How does the web client stack up against the Windows client? Are all or most of the features there? Not that they all work in the Windows client, but people will look for them anyway.

Are these numbers you are getting from SalesLogix?

Those are list prices, yes? I could be wrong on the "Web Viewer Plus"
price, it's been a while since I purchased any. But I do remember that
they are dirt cheap compared to the WG/Remote seats.

Am I over/under paying?

My understanding is that Interact generally does not discount unless you
buy 20 or more seats at a time.

Interact has always discounted for me.
The last time I ordered WG clients, I named my price and they gave it
to me.

Complain more.
