Arne was a young engineer at Radio Sweden in 1948 when he convinced
management that a program of news for shortwave hobbyists would be
useful to our audience. An early example of interactivity, listeners
began writing to the program with their listening tips, and all those
who contributed went on the mailing list for a weekly newsletter based
on the scripts.
It is the oldest program of its kind still on the air, although now
known as "MediaScan" and focused more on satellites and
cyberbroadcasting than on shortwave. The changes came after Arne retired
in 1978, and he passionately criticised the move.
Although he was a key figure in the founding of the Swedish DX
Federation and the European DX Council, Arne did object to the sometimes
expressed claim that he was "the father of all Swedish DXers".
Radio Sweden's MediaScan on June 15 will be a tribute to Arne Skoog. We
invite all those who have been touched by this broadcasting pioneer to
share their thoughts here on Talkback.

Share what you know. Learn what you don't.
My deepest sympathy on the passing of Arnie Skoog.
One of my first (over 25 years ago) DX SWL contacys was Radio Sweden.
Many, many times I listened and enjoyed Sweden Calling DXers. There was
always something new and interesting.
Arne was one of the "sparks" that helped my interest in DX SWL continue
and eventually my getting an extra class amateur radio licence KX2L.
..
Tack sa mycket Arne. You will be missed Tom
