We are hosting an 18 year old Swedish exchange student here in Florida
USA.
She told us to get a drivers license in Sweden is expensive, and there
is also an expensive course you must take.
We were thinking on helping her get a Florida drivers license and then
an International license here. It cost very little. Then she could
transfer her International licence to a Swedish licence when she went
back to Sweden. NOT SO.
We were told it can't be done with a license from the US, that she
would have to do the Swedish courses and pay the full amount for her
license.
I'm wondering is the reason for such high license and course fees just
to get more money for the state or are there other reasons? Its great
Sweden is very saftey orientated in allowing a young Swedish citizen
the privaledge to drive. However it seems to us that its almost as if
Sweden deliberatly restricts young people from getting a license due to
high costs?
What are listeners and Radio Sweden's staff members views on this
subject?
Tack Tom
