Hi again! I just heard the news item on yesterday's broadcast on how
Sweden plans to open 6 casino's in the near future. I was wondering what the
current status is on gambling in Sweden?.. meaning what forms of gambling are
there now? I assume Sweden had the usually array of lotteries, scracth and
win tickets, bingos, horse-racing, raffles etc. Here in the province of
Alberta, Canada we legalized Video Gambling Machines and Casino's a number of
years ago which are all run under certain restrictions. After having these
types of gambling in our communitees for a few years we were able to evalute
whether or not this was infact a good idea by holding a referendum. Each
municipality had the chance to vote for their removal. Although the vote was
close accross the province only a few municipalities voted them out. I think
those who voted to keep them did so partly due to an already present-easy
access of american casino's accross the border. The theory is Canadian
casinos would keep our money at home. The other motive similar to this was
the ease of access to internet gambling, which is impossible for our
government to regulate and the profits still disappear from Canada and go all
over the world. Is this some of the rational behind Sweden's decision too?
Just curious. Personally I have only put in total one dollar into those
Video Gambling machines. I didn't win anything either. Maybe I gave up to
easy? ( <- joke) Regardless of my bad luck I still voted to keep them.
Anyways.. I can't wait to hear everyone and anyones thoughts on this. Thanks
again. Adrien.
