Listened to Spectrum today and enjoyed listening to the old interview
of Earnest Hemmingway.
He 1s one of my favorite authors. My favorite is " The Old Man and the
Sea". Sorry to hear he never made it to Sweden but glad he won the
Nobel prize for literature. Old "Papa" Hemmingway would of loved
visiting Sweden.
Thought I would share an experience with Radio Sweden listeners.
We have been to the Earnest Hemmingway house in Key West Florida. It is
a beautiful house, now a museum. The grounds are famous for 6 toed
cats. Hemmingway loved cats and many of the cats are decendents of the
original Hemmingway 6 toed cats. There is a small pretty cottage, where
he did his writing connected to the main house.
Here are some stories told to me by the tour guide.
Earnest was quite a character going to his favorite bar Sloppy Joes. He
liked and used the tiled urinal at the bar so much he bought it and had
it installed at his house.
One day while Earnest was away his wife decided to have an inground
swimming pool put in. There were many difficulties getting the pool in
and the cost ended up being almost as much as the house. When Earnest
came home and found out the cost of the pool, he had a fit. He threw
his last coin in his pocket to the ground and said you might as well
have my last one. His wife having a sense of humor had the coin put in
concrete near the pool, so all could see and said " Look I got his last
coin".
If any of Radio Sweden listeners are ever in Key West Florida, try
vising the Hemmingway house. You will enjoy viewing the house/museum
and the many stories by the tour guides.
Tack sa mycket, Tom
