Polo Players in Australia enjoyed a very successful Winter season which
included an International Arena Championship in Queensland. There were
visiting players from NZ, Hawaii & Uruguay. This was followed by an
Australia vs The Rest of the World test match on grass.

In previous years the Rest of the World have struggled for horse power
but this year the local "imports" pulled out all the stops and the game
benefited accordingly. In a close match the Rest of the World lead for
the first 2 chukkas but Australia fought their way back in the 3rd and
4th and eventually won 8 -6.

The Will Ashton Memorial Women's Tournament will be held on December 8th
& 9th. This tournament is growing every year and is an important fixture
on the world calendar of women's events.

International Teams are as follows:

USA
Lauren Beal 0
Barley Flanders 0
Sandra Ballard -1
Rebecca Davies -1

NZ (Hunter Country)
Kelly Keyte -1
Kirsty Watson 0
Cath Calder -1
Amanda Harrison -1

UK
Rona Bowman -1
Jo Parker 0
Louisa Clothier 0
Anne Wilkinson -1

AUSTRALIA (Paspaley)
Malinda MacGinley 0
K MacGinley -1
Kirsty Sullivan 2
M-L Eason -1

The tournament will also include a 10 goal Men's exhibition game and 10
mixed teams competing for a second trophy.

Horse power for international teams is being provided by local high goal
players. James Ashton, President of the Australian Polo Council, will
supply most of the ponies. James' son, Will, was tragically killed in a
car accident returning from a Polo Tournament in Queensland two years
ago, and the tournament is dedicated in his name.

Margot McCutcheon will be travelling down to the tournament and will
send match reports.

The next major event for polo players in the Southern Hemishpere after
the Will Ashton Memorial will be the New Zealand Open and in March
Australia is hosting the finals of the FIP World Cup so all eyes will be
focused down-under for these next few months.
