Last night, I listened to Narada compilation piano solo "Memmory" not
the one in CAT, and Carol Kid's "Autume in NYK" and some pieces on "Now
the green blade risen"
My pairs of diy 6A3 only needs to turn 2/10 and the 200ft room is
already full of music. I become more understand why Tannoy are more
expensive than JBL and Altec on ebay.
The Silver speakers sound MUCH better than in original Tannoy box. In
the coming time, I will continue to dig more potential from it through
the use of bi-amp and electronic cross-over, beliving that directly
coupling to the amps will drive them even more REAL.
It's time for me to restore my Leak TL12.1 (hehe! I have 5 pieces) and
get my passage back to 1950s.
Hv Fun!

Before you buy.
Eric:
As you mentioned in your message, you must have loss of fun when you
listen to your pair of speakers. I will visit you once I have time to
listen to the Tannoy Silver.
Vincent
Enjoy,Eric! What electronic crossover do you plan to use?Raanan
I think I will diy a tube (12AU7) cross-over base on the specification
of the Tannoy's potted original passive cross-over, 1.7kHz 12dB Hi-
pass, no network for the woofer as it is in the passive unit.

You're always welcome. I think you'll like them as they look and sound
so vintage.

Hi HK!
I want to L@@K! pic?
Happy Ears!

Yep me too, I'm eager to post pics, as I believe mine looks better than
anyone's on the web, but I have no digital camera, I hope Tim can do
this for me ,when he has time to come to my place, and put the pics on
the diy page on hktubeaudio site.

Have a look at my web page about the restoration of the Leak TL12.1:
http://homepages.tesco.net/~h.w.lau/index.html
I will be interested to know the progress of your restoration.
Hon
Hello Hon,
Wow, seems you have been adding alot on your web page since my last
visit. My pair of open transformer have poorer conditions than yours.
When they were shipped in, the most of the amps' surface were oiled by
the leakages. I dared not to power them up so they were stored as they
had been.
Thoughout these months I have been finding stuff to restored them. I
won't go for Solen. I sourced out same value PIO caps to be canned
inside 2 diy metal cans which I'm going to use epoxy and aluminium to
make them. These will be sprayed black and their heights will be
taller, same as the transformer. Even if I re-sell them, no one will
mind these 'non-original' as my NOS caps will serve another decades.
Another solution is to swap the good condition caps from my another
TL12.1 pairs onto these open rack ones.
In coupling circuit, I have at hand some small Cornell-Dubilier
bathtubs. They sound good in my 6A3 SETA. At the splitter, I will use a
black beautie. The CD sounds musical and transparent, while the BB
sounds warmer and muddy (vintage passion) I believe they share the good
job here altogether. For resistors, I will go to buy the Chinese mil-
grade carbon when I go to visit Guangzhou.
The trans will be repainted with tar oil. I'm figuring out how to
restore the chasis, basically will mend the extra holes with telfon
seal and respray the bronze and acrylic.
Seems I'm dreaming too much, but it works and worths, finally.
Hv fun!

Be careful with the oil which has leaked from the multi section
filtering cap because the oil is toxic.
Steve Spicer in his Leak Kievly Valley web page shows how to put a few
Solen caps and a Farnell motor run cap inside the original black metal
can from the multi section filter. I think his idea is very neat. I
personally do not mind the bright sound from the Solen caps, but I know
they do not sound as smooth and detailed as the paper in oil caps.
To me, the appearance of the amp is not too important, so I never bother
to re-paint the chassis or fill the holes. Recently I have seen a pair
of TL12.1 in "as-new" condition in a hi fi enthusiast's house, very
desirable indeed.
