I'd seen someone said that Telefunken ECC803S were really made by
Siemens (Tim is it you?).

If so, then do they have <>? It is possible for a ECC803S without a <>
marking?

Thank you for any input.

There are 5 versions of Telefunken ECC803S that I have seen. 4 are with
<> marking and are made by Telefunken. The 5th one is made by Siemens
and without <> marking. I believe it is just a version of E83CC.

The 4 versions made by Telefunken are :

1) powder marking double support
2) wrinkle glass single support
3) clear glass single support
4) oil marking double support

I think their sonic quality is also in that order.

The worst that one can do is to buy a Siemens made TFK ECC803S with the
price for a TFK made one.

This is not correct. E83CC is a low noise, low microphonic version of
ECC83, whereas ECC803S is a frame grid version, an entirely different
valve in fact. The ECC803S from Siemens, as well as Valvo, are similar
to their frame grid style E283CC, which even has an internal shield,
that the ECC803S is missing. It is an excellent valve, every bid as good
as the somewhat overrated Telefunken.

There are even a few more, as the Berlin and Ulm versions are slightly
different.

As far as the price is concerned, that is right. However, as I
previously lined out, an excellent valve...

We learn something new everyday and I am gald that you pointed out my
mistake.

I never notice that Valvo has ever made an ECC803S. Must now go and
search for this tube.

Is E283CCC the same as ECC803S?

Wow. Would you have a pic of how they look like?

I ask this question as I'm going to own a Telefunken labelled ECC803S
without a <> marking, and I want to know if it is worthwhile to find it
a mate. Would anyone please point me to the right direction to get a
mate for it?

Besides this ECC803S, a Telefunken E84L (with 3 rows of etched
codes that indicates it was made by Siemens)is also coming, may I have
your opinion on this tube please?

The Siemens ECC803S with TFK label will probably be priced as around
the same as the real TFK made one so it may not be worthwhile even as
you find it. So you should look for Siemens marking one instead.

Let see if Dieter confirm Siemens ECC803S=E283CC.

I got a pair of these Siemens 7320 but never have a chance to test them
in our previous EL84 party. But I find most Siemens EL84 to sound
rather "hard".

I certain that E283CC not equal to ECC803s.

It's an 'improved' ECC83 with different pin assignment. No direct
substitution. But I heard that E283CC (only made by Siemens) is better
than any ECC83 and variations.

Yes, E283CC is cheap (price).

I think my previous posting might not be detailed enough. Here again the
details.

* E83CC, the low noise, low microphonic version of ECC83 with the
identical internal structure and pinout.

* ECC803S, a frame grid version of ECC83 with identical data and pinout.
Frame grid construction had been used in order to keep microphonics to
an absolute minimum and improve linearity. Frame grid versions for audio
use were made by Telefunken, Siemens and Valvo (Philips). Telefunken w/o
<> could be any of the latter. Be aware though that mid '70 versions
were sourced from Tesla!!!

* E283CC a rugged 10,000 hr. frame grid version with identical internal
structure of ECC803S but modified pinout and added internal shield. This
AF tube was used in critical applications requiring a dead quiet tube
with high signal-to-noise ratio, going beyond simple audio use - e.g.
cardiology recorders. The shield prevents crosstalk between the two
sections with high signal amplitudes.
It has both ends of the filaments paralled and connected to pin 4+5
only, w/o CT to pin 9.

The best version is the genuine Valvo red series tube. However, I'm not
so sure about Siemens as I have never tested one.

If it hadn't been for the different pinout, this tube would have given
the ECC803S a run for it's money, as it is the better tube, as simple as
that...

Is it possible to build an adpator or a selector to switch between
E283CC and ECC83/ECC803S? I think it is worthwhile as Siemens E283CC
can be found for only around USD$12 to 20 each.

This would be simple enough and will perfectly work as long as:

a. the pre-amp section's filaments are not series string connected
b. there is enough space under the cover

This is most useful info and I will must them on the club website for
future reference.

BTW, is the description above also true for E81CC/E82CC and the
ECC801S/ECC802S tubes?

E81/82CC premium type of ECC81/82 for Valvo, Siemens etc. ECC801/802S is
the TFK labeling for the premiums and are not frame grid types. As such
they have identical internal structures as the common types.

P.S. I'm heading out to the US tonite. As such I'll be keeping a low
profile for a while...
