in Taiwan as follows :

1. The EL156 is triode connected that the screen grid supply may have
exceeded the limit. According to the TFK manual, I would think the EL156
works best as pentode.
2. The OPT is 3.5K which puts out more power and also high distortion.
However, since it is tridoe connected, distortion may not be too bad
without NFB. Note that TFK recommended a 3.8K OPT.

Yes, don't think that it is good to wire triode.

I don't like the 5687 driver very much since not so many type to play
with. Tim, I think you can consider some RR 12AU7 in place of the 5687.
The EL156 in fact don't need lot of power to drive with.

Eric,

I think you meant 5842 instead.

Yes, the transcondutance of EL156 is exceptionally high, so that
quite many small signal tubes can be used like 6SN7, 12AU7, E80CC, 6922,
CV181, 6J5, WE417/5842....
But the final sonic impression could be very different of course.

Alex

That's why I insist on using the "ultra" 12AU7, the E80CC, as driver.

The E80CC, of course, is not an 12AU7. Just as Ultraman is not a man.
