I read somewhere in this forum that someone was interested in starting
a survey of vinyl shops in Hong Kong. I wonder if any of our members
would care to nominate their favorite places to buy vinyl records, and
include the address of the shops and the kind of records that one can
find in these shops?

Thanks,

Adrian

Not too long ago, our LPs collector Lee HC post some recruitment tips in
audioboard. Here is the copy ...

----------------------------
I would like to share my one & half year experience of haunting LP in
town :

A. Ap Liu Street (ALS), POP LPs mainly, concentrated in
between Kwai Lam St & Yam Chau St.
(I have prepared a map, mail me if you want it).
1. Kam Lam St close to Yue Chau St. Run by Mr. Leung. From $5
to $30 (Classic). Many $5 POP &
ocassionally TAS POP like "The best of Seal & Crofts" of $5.
Even $10 POP are cleaned LPs. My usual
starting point of ALS troop. Operate 4p-8p, except stormy
day. Better chance of getting Classical LP 4-5pm.

2. ALS close to Yam Chau St. Two spots run by Mr. Mak ( Fei
Lo ). From $10 (POP) up. Classical $30
mainly. The most friendly guy in ALS for LP selling. I have
got lots of surprising LPs from him. The recently
open shop inside the lane is even better place for haunting
even during rainly day. Working 2pm - 9pm,
irregular. If you can't find him during daytime, you may have
good harvest for the evening.

3. Kwai Lam St, next to MTR exit. Pual's shop. Last year my
favourite shop. Price raised this years. POP $10
up but mainlly $20. He is very aware of the value of rare or
collector's choice of POP. Classical $30. Now he
shop is flooding with LPs & impossible to do searching inside
& he needs to take the LPs outside for me to
choose. Work 6p-12p. The only shop to get good external
plastic cover for LP ($0.5 each) & EP ($0.3). He
also sell internal shelve, but A-Train (operate by Wilmer) is
preferable place for antistatic internal shelve.

Two more LP spots in the floor. One selling LP $20 / 3LPs.
One shop outside ALS: Pak Ho St / Tai Po Road "Wai Shun
Arcade", selling classic mainly. Not that cheap.
The boss also run another spots in the ALS with scanty LPs.

Basically, I mainly pruchase LPs in ALS. Price is the major
concern. Getting oldies, cheapy & goodies LPs
are very pleasant event there. Some POP LPs are are expensive
somewhere else, e.g. Teresa Tang, Choi
Kam, Choi Hang Kuen & they are my favourite POP singer.
Recently got the Teresa Tang's picture LP! Not
long ago the Telarc OmniDisc!.
So, likely we may have encountered in the ALS. I will ge
there again, as usual after work on daytime, this
afternoon.

BTW, you need a LP cleanser if you are going to haunt LP
extensively in ALS.

B. MongKok.
1. Tat Fat 3rd fl, Luen Sing. Mainly Classic $60 up. I have
only purchase one there.
2. Sino basement. Three shops. One is working regularly. I
mainly purchase the LPs displayed outside the
shop. Say, Japanese Oldies (Yin Gor) $50 /3ps , $100 / 10ps.
Classic $100 up. Teresa Tang's LP is
ultraexpensive (picture disc $1,600). Teresa EP $450!!
3. Hung Hing Aracade. Got LPs there for two occaions. $200
for Nakamoto's LP is the best purchase I
consider.
4. Sun Hing Record. Selling NOS LPs!. $50/LP. Discounted item
$10 up. Many good old POPs. Elvis, Cliff,
Gracia Rivera, Crystal Gayle... new LPs. EPs $2 /pc.
Seemingly, the owner still keeping many NOS.
5. "Tsz Cheung" in "Ngan Shing Arcade". POP mainly, $30 up.

C. Prince Eward.
1. Allien (Luen Hop) Arcade, next to MTR. Shop own by Mr.
Leung (the one in ALS). More reasonable pricing
of audiophile LPs compare with Sino.
2. YK Audio.

D. HK Island. Not much experience there.
1. YK Audio in Central.
2. New Trend Plaza, North Point.
3. HMV Central.

Other : HMV/TST ( no more Jazz ), "Po Hing Square" (expensive
LP of rock, disco).

Yes, I though Felix "Masked Rider" is building it.

Are you there, Felix?
