As promised, here follows the full, verbatim transcript of Gary's
recent message on the Gary Barlow Hotline, for the benefit of our
friends living outside of the UK - and for anyone cynical enough to
actually believe or suggest that the reason it was recorded had
anything to do with Gary or the fan club making money. The intelligent
among you will clearly accept and realise that the Hotline has always
been there (for two-and-a-half years) to keep you informed, that nobody
is forcing you to call it (or ever has done so) - and that there was
nothing more sinister attached to Gary recording a personal message
than the fact that he wanted to speak to his fans directly. As for The
Sun...what do you expect from a rag of its kind? Proper journalism? I
think not. The hack responsible is not worthy of further infamy or
comment on this website. Ignore the insect.
Anyway, this is what Gary had to say:
"Hi there, everybody. This is Mr Barlow here, himself, saying hello and
thank you for calling the fan club hotline. I want to tell you that
this message is being recorded on the 5th of April...
"Anyway, I suppose most of you have received the latest 'In
Conversation...' CD - and I should explain, actually, that when that
was recorded I didn't actually know the news then that I was going to
be a Dad. Well, actually, I DID know the news but, you know, we didn't
want to tempt fate or anything by telling everyone too early, so... And
there's one thing I'm SO pleased about with that - which is that I
actually got to tell you that myself, which was brilliant, rather than
it coming out in a newspaper or from somebody else. So that was really
brilliant.
I've been up to lots of things since 'Heartbeat', which I'm sure you
all saw. That was pretty good, I quite enjoyed that. If there's one
thing I did learn from it, it's that I'm not sure whether I'd like to
be an actor now. But we'll see about that, anyway.
Since then, I've been spending a lot of time in the studio - which is
something I've been waiting to do for a long time; just having a clear
diary in front of me and just writing tracks. I've actually been in the
studio with quite a few acts, and artists also. I suppose you've
already heard that I've been writing with Steps, which was brilliant. I
really enjoyed that, and I've been writing with many other people, too,
so you'll be hearing about that in due time, also.
In fact, I've been pretty much concentrating on the writing for quite a
while now, and that's something that I hope to do for at least the rest
of this year. I'm not really in the mood right now for making my own
record, although - believe me - while I am writing for other artists,
if I do come across anything completely exceptional, I'll be putting it
aside for myself. Believe me, I really will.
In the next few weeks, I'm going off to the States, on a writing trip
out there with a few artists and a lot of songwriters. In fact, most of
my favourite CDs at the moment are actually American artists; N-Sync,
Christina Aguillera - stuff like that. So I think I'll be trying to
track them down while I'm out there.
Also, we have had a lot of e-mails, and people writing to us. There's
still a lot of stuff going on in the papers, and people are asking
me 'Is this true? Is that true?' To be honest, if I responded every
time there was something in a newspaper, then I'd just have no time to
do anything else. So, all I can say to you is: unless you've heard it
from me, or it's on the website or it's on this phoneline - or anything
like that - then I would pretty much assume it isn't true and take it
with a pinch of salt.
That said, I always love to hear from you all, so please keep writing
in and sending e-mails, etc, etc.
Love to you all - and I hope to see you all very, very soon. And thanks
for tuning in on this phoneline.
I'd say that was a real beaudee.
So, there you go.
Lovely."
